A Journey on the Train.

Chapter 4

"Where to?" he asks.

"The train station" I confidently answer.

I stare at the marks on my hand and wonder if Claire got those too. I stare at the window as time passes. The only way to know if there's a cure to the curse is asking my grand-mother. She lives in a small town which is about 400 kilometers away. I reach the train station and realize that I haven’t got enough money for the taxi and the train. I can only pay for one of them. I quickly get out of the taxi and run as fast as my sore legs can.

"Hey! Madam wait a second!" He shouts out.

"I'm sorry!" I scream back.

I buy a ticket with all the money I have. I sit to wait for the train to arrive. A woman sits on the seat beside me. I start to feel a weird feeling, the feeling that I feel every time I kill someone. I start to worry about the innocent woman. I get up of my seat and start to walk around the train station. I start to remember how Claire never tried hard to stop the curse. She enjoyed it and regretted it afterwards. I will try my best to stop it and I will never give up.

Attention! The train to Consata has arrived and will leave after 15 minutes.

I walk to the train and hand the man my ticket. I sit on the farthest seat from humans. An old man who is in his 60s sits beside me. He's wearing a white chemise and a brown jacket with brown pants. I look at his face for a few seconds. He looks at me and I quickly look away. He gasps and I look at him and I realize he is staring at the marks on my hand.

"You're one of them!" He says in disbelief.

"I don't understand what you're talking about." I lie.

"Stay away from me!" he grabs his briefcase and anxiously gets up.

He must know something that I don't know. I feel very tired and my eyes are threatening to close. I'm afraid that I will oversleep and miss the town's stop. A young man approaches and asks if he could have a seat next to me. He's about my age with dark brown wavy hair.

"Yes." I hear myself say.

"I'm sorry for disturbing; it's just that old man freaks me out." He says.

"It's okay." I smile.

"What's your name?" He asks.

"Juliette. What's yours? "

"Kenny"

He looks at the marks on my hand and I hurriedly hide them.

"Can I see that?" He asks.

"No!"

"I promise I won't hurt you"

I slowly pull them out. He looks at the marks for a while then he quickly presses a knife into my wrist. I scream out with pain.

"What are you doing?!"

"It's for your own good." He calmly says.

"You're crazy!" I shout and everyone on the train stares at me.

I pull my hand away and when I look at the blood that is leaking out of my wrist I realize the different shades of blood. I wrap my jumper around the injury. Memory strikes me and I remember that I touched Claire's blood! Could it have been the reason I have the curse. I look at Kenny's hand and I feel relieved that he doesn't have any drop of blood on his skin. He's looking closely at the knife that has my blood on it. I grab the knife from his hand and quickly wipe it with my jumper.

"HEY! Why did you do that?! I needed that!" He angrily says.

"If you tell me why you need my blood I might let you have a sample of it"

"Never; I don't trust you, give me a sample of your blood then I will tell you the reason."

"I don't trust you either." I say as I narrow my eyes towards him.

"Fine! I don't need it anyway"

Ladies and gentlemen the train will arrive to Consata in an hour.

"Finally" I hear Kenny say.

"Are you heading to Consata?"

"No, but I know that you are."

I'm confused why he would want to follow me especially if he knows that I'm a killer. His words make me have a second thought because if he really knows that I'm a killer he wouldn't want to even sit beside me.

"So are you going to tell me your secret or not?" He asks.

"I have no secrets."

"Come on we both know that you’re a killer." He whispers.

I get goose bumps when he says the last word.

"I'm not a killer, that's just your assumption."

"Well, it may have been the first time for you to see me but I actually followed you the whole time. I saw you punching the man's face in the library and his eyes cracked like eggs. You have the marks of a killer on your hand Juliette!"

I'm shocked at how easily he said that. I don’t say a word for the rest of the journey.

Attention riders the train now has stopped Consata. Please take all your belongings before you leave as we are not responsible for any losses.

I look at Kenny sleeping and I realize that it's my chance to run away from this psycho stalker. I grab my backpack and slowly pass between Kenny's legs and the seat in front of him. I finally exit the train. I stretch my body and I'm feeling more tired than ever. I decide to look for a place to rest in for a couple of hours. A man distributing maps hands me one. I grab a pen from my backpack and circle my grand-mother's area. I feel a hand being placed on my right shoulder and I'm too afraid to look at who it is. Can it be possible that my parents know that I could be in Consata. I know that I will eventually have to turn around so I think that it's better to do it now rather than later.

"So, where are we going?" Kenny asks.

I roll my eyes and I look at his excited expression. I remember that I can't do anything without money. Maybe I can use Kenny for some time then abandon him.

"Have you got any money?" I ask.

"Why?"

"Just answer me!"

"Yes…" He worriedly answers.

"Good, come on let's go" I calmly say.
