We are Survivors

Chapter 5

We've been walking for about 2 hours.

"I'm starving, let's eat." I say.

"I'm starving too, but the problem…"

"What's the problem?!" I ask.

"I … I don't have money." Kenny says.

"WHAT!" I scream furiously.

"So, what's the plan now?"

"I think you should go." I coolly say.

"I'm sorry I promise I'll find us food and…"

"I said go!"

Kenny turns around and starts to walk north. I start my way south.

After a couple of hours I realize that I chose the wrong way, but there's no point of turning back now. The sky starts to rain and I immediately shiver from the cold drops of rain. I look at the moon and start to wonder where Kenny is.

I decide to look for shelter to stay in for the night. I stand in front of a hotel and I ultimately rush inside.

"Good Evening Madam". A welcoming receptionist greets me.

"Hello."

"How can I help you?" She nicely asks.

"I would like a room to stay in for the night."

"Of course... please sign here." She says as she hands me a paper.

I sign the paper and when I'm done I hand the paper to the receptionist. The marks on my wrist grab her attention and she looks at them for a few seconds. I'm supposed to be used to it by now, but I'm not.

"Follow me Miss?"

"Juliette" I say as softly as I can.

We wait for the elevator and I catch her looking at my wrist again. She takes me to the 14th floor.

"It was a pleasure meeting you" she smiles as she pushes me into the penthouse and locks the door with her card.

I don’t have the energy to fight anymore I just walk over to the wide comfy bed. A part of me is glad that she locked me. I lay down and my body relaxes straight away.

I open my eyes and energy boosts up inside my body. I get up from my bed and walk over to the door. I try to unlock it and I get surprised that the door easily opens.

"Not so fast young lady!" A man who's twice my size says.

He quickly ties a cloth between my upper jaw and bottom jaw. I try to run away but he's too strong. I yell out for help but it's of no use. The man sprays something into my eyes and I shout in pain. It stings my eyes, I can't see a thing. I wipe my eyes and wait for my eyes to adjust. When I look around I find the huge man on the floor with a knife stabbed on the back of his head and blood leaking out to the white smooth concrete floor. I pull the cloth off my jaw then suddenly I feel the need to touch the blood. I haven't touched blood since long time. I slowly move my hand near the blood.

"JULIETTE! NO!" Kenny screams, but it's too late.

My hand start to burn and I can't help it as tears stream down my face. Kenny runs towards me then stops he looks at my burned hand and fear fills his face.

"Come on we don't have time. We have to get out of here as soon as possible." He bravely says.

He helps me up to my feet. My hand screams in pain.

"Where do you think you're going?" Another strong looking man shows up.

He pulls two guns out and points both of them at Kenny.

"Come with me or else I kill the boy." He boldly addresses me.

"He will kill you, don't go." Kenny whispers to me.

Kenny unexpectedly pulls out a gun and shoots it at the man's legs.

"Run!"

We both run down the stairs and in a millisecond I find myself in the ground floor.

"I will kill you! You destroyed my plan, you don't deserve to live." I hear the man say to Kenny.

"NO" I say as I rush up the stairs. I push the man as hard as my unharmed hand can. He falls down the stairs and blood splashes everywhere. I hurriedly help Kenny and we both exit the hotel. I sit on the pavement of the road.

"That was pretty scary" Kenny says as he sits beside me.

"Yea it was" I look at my burned hand.

Kenny looks at me then pulls out a dagger from his belt. I gasp and quickly get up.

He doesn't say a thing; he starts to cut right through his palm and offers me to touch the blood.

"This will heal the burn" He says.

I sit beside him and pull out my hand. He squeezes his hand and blood drops fall into my hand. It's almost like magic; my hand heals as fast as light. I look at my hand in disbelief.

"Thank you a lot!" I say happily.

"It's nothing. Thanks for saving my life." He says.

I stare at the road and start to think that maybe Kenny could help me in my adventure.

"You're welcome. I was thinking maybe you could help me find out about what's happening to me." I say, and when I turn around to see if Kenny agrees, I don't find him, he's gone!

I sigh as I realize how much hope I had in that boy. I think he knows many things about this curse, but something tells me that he doesn't want me to know.

I remember my parents and my heart aches at the memories of my loving family. I start to think maybe it's better if I just go back to my parents.
