Chapter 7.

I head up stairs and raid the bedroom closets and manage to find a-slightly-too-big dark blue shirt, black tights and a leather jacket. I look at my reflection in of one of the full body mirrors. Not bad. I untied my hair and flicked it around abit. The blackness of my eyes brought out a red shine. Hard to see, but it's there. I straighten up, dusting off my jeans. I give my reflection a quick wink before turning and leaving the room.

Down stairs Dominic is searching through cupboards and drawers. I open a few and look through them aimlessly "So what are we looking for?"

He sighs heavily and continues to stare into a drawer. "I dunno, batteries, food, water. Basically any supplies that would be useful." I lean against a dusty counter and look at Dominic's new outfit. He wears a light grey singlet, and army camouflage jeans. He still wears the black uniform boots that he stole from the base. Not bad. He turns to me, colours of hopelessness and defeat in his eyes. "Nothing. This house has been picked clean. I'm surprised we managed to get the clothes, honestly."

I sigh heavily. "Well once we get to my house we'll have what we need." He frowns and nods, still feeling defeated. We stand in silence for a long moment. I look him over again, he has a thick, muscular build, one or two feet taller than me and looks to be about 17. He glances at me and studies my eyes, catching a flash of magenta and light pink in his before he turns his head to look out the window. "I'm not even remotely interested in you." I give him a questioning look. And he points to his eyes, "I saw all that pink just now." What a jerk.

I quickly turn away and walk to the living room. I take the cushions off the couches and patted them out. A cloud of dust rises in front of me, which leads to me sneezing several times. I then drop them on the floor in a makeshift mattress order. "There we go" I say aloud to Dominic. "I'll keep watch first tonight." He responds by laughing obnoxiously loudly as he enters the room.

"Look, Iris, we've had a long day, and if you don't want us to get lost tomorrow then you'll be a good girl and go to bed early." I give him a stern look. As much of a jerk he is, he's right. You're exhausted. I turn away sharply and stomp up the staircase, slamming the door to the first bed room. Well that was childish. I ignored the thought as I lay on the dusty bed. Seeing the last of the day's light fade through the torn curtains I close my eyes and let my mind and body relax.

I woke with a start the next day, feeling dazed and confused about where I was. I stayed completely still as i recall the events of yesterday. I had somehow moved to the edge of the bed in my sleep, so as I rolled over I hit the ground with a loud thud. I sighed heavily and laid there for a few moment before hearing the door swing open and Dominic's voice. "Not every day I get to see the falls" I sit up as casually as possible and glare at his cocky grin. "Don't forget to visit the gift shop." I say sarcastically

His expression turned serious. "I saw some Scarecrows searching down the way a bit." He pointed in north's general direction. "I vote we stay here one more night, just to be safe, look around again for any more supplies." He scans the room briefly before leaving, closing the door behind him. Good morning to you too.

I stand and look out the window. No signs of them now. No doubt they had all the dogs on our trail. Isn't it smarter to keep moving then? I frown at the thought, i'm sure Dominic knows what he's doing. I follow Dominic down the stairs, seeing his limp is even more noticeable now I suggest fixing it now. He shrugs, "We got time to waste." I tell him to sit on the dining room table and he does so. He pulls up his pants leg, exposing a very bruised knee. I cringe at the sight of it. I kneel on the floor, taking a closer look.

I held his leg still by the back of his knee, up close I could see small shards of glass embedded in his skin. His kneecap has swollen twice its normal size and the bruise was deep purplish yellow. I think back to our earlier search of the house. "Did you see any ice when we looked around earlier?" Dominic shrugged "Might be some in the freezer, if it is hasn't melted." I gently let go of his leg and move into the kitchen. Okay, we need: ice, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, bandages or cloth. I open the ancient looking freezer. Hopefully it hasn't been opened in while - no luck. I search the rest of the kitchen for the other items i need. I re-enter the dining room with a pair of tweezers, old cloth with soft fabric, a small peeling knife, a bowl of clean water and a wooden spoon. I hand Dominic the spoon and tell him to bite it. "I don't know how painful this'll be so we'd better be safe than sorry." He nods and puts the length of the handle between his teeth.

I give him a reassuring smile and focus on pulling out the bigger pieces of glass, I only use the knife once to dig out a small, deep shard. It only takes me a couple of minutes to finish but when I am the Dominic had bitten hard enough to leave deep grooves in the wood.

(authors note: i still have a lot of work to do on the last few paragraphs of this chapter, ive been busy with school so i haven't been able to write much.)
