They think when you're young, you don't know enough to comprehend. That your tail hasn't developed enough for you to swim fast as older merpeople. Since you're barely a teenager that you should lie low. No.
For ten years, I have been pushed around and stepped on because of my condition. I've had to be hospitalized since the day I took my first stroke. My parents believes that it's safest that I calm down and let mer do everything for me. Just because I'm weak at heart I'm suppose to stay back and let everyone show their advantages? It's not fair. I'm almost sixteen years old and I haven't left my room, not once. Mother says it's so they can watch over me but it's more of so they can make sure I don't escape. With all the staff, we have around the castle, no one comes near me. Not even to talk. It's like I'm prisoner in my own home.
I just wish that one day I can leave this place and see the world. I want to meet other merfolk other than the staff and family. I want to experience friendship and...love. Mother has told me stories about princesses that have fallen in love and lived happily ever after. Even now, she reads them to me. Mostly, I read them myself or to my younger sister. I'd act out the characters for her while she giggled and attempted to do them herself. I love my sister to my very core so I want to spend time with her, show her sisterly love, though I can't offer much. For her to be six, she's already learned various sports and songspells. It's obvious that's she's our parents' favorite just for the fact that she's healthy and active.
It's okay. I'm glad it's me who was born with unidentified disease instead of her. To swim by her room everyday not being able to help her would literally kill me inside,so if it had to be someone, why not me? I'm marked for death anyway.
