Aaron's POV.

They wouldn't let me see her.

I knew my background would cause issues, but this, this is stupid.

Garroth was let in ,Vlyad, even Zane.

Laurence, who had very nearly killed someone once, was let in.

But me, no, my father made sure of that.

"You stupid ***** I took you in you little **** and this is how you repay me!!"

Dad was drunk again, he was taking his anger out on mom.

"Malcolm..."

She was sick of it, the fighting, the cursing, the all out emotional suffering.

But he never hit her, EVER.

College, and she's still here.

I remember thinking.

But, a dull thump, and a scream changed my life.

He hit her, once, across the face. But it was enough, she fell, and never got up.

The police came soon after, taking him away.

That would be the end of the story, but before the officers forced him into the car, he said a sentence, made for me.

"You'll be no different."

And my name was put on the watch list, a suspect of any domestic violence within a mile of me.

Including this one.

The hospital questioned me, called the cops, and then they questioned me.

"I am a investigator for this kind of thing, why would I commit it?"

"I'm the one who saved her."

"I'm her best friend."

They ignored me.

A doctor came up to me, a forced smile etched on his face.

He couldn't see mine.

"She's been asking for you for the past hour, you can go see her."

It's about time.

The two officers followed me to the room.

She was laying down laughing at Garroth, who was smiling as well.

Her eyes fell on me, and if it was possible, her smile grew bigger.

"Hey, where have you been you big teddy bear."

Joyful as always.

"Worried about you." I replied,  sprinting up to her bedside.

Garroth and Zane were the only two left in the room, which was the size of a large bathroom.

They looked at each other and left, Garroth rather reluctantly.

"Aphmau I-"

"Don't, just don't, it could have been much worse if you hadn't have been there." She cut me off, and gave the officers a small polite smile.

"And why are you two here, don't you have other things to do?" Her pleasant tone, though not forced, had a lack of any real emotion. A facade that the both of us often took up.

"We're here to keep you safe from this criminal miss, don't you know-"

"I am well aware of his heritage officer, however, you of all people should know not to judge someone by their family." The look she gave him, was anywhere between sweet and evil, but it seemed to have the desired effect.

The officers both looked stunned, like they had both hit themselves with their tasers(that they had been pulling out a lot in front of me.)

"Yes of course, my apologies Mr. Aaron, we should have known better."

He gave a bow to Aphmau and walked out the door, his friend followed closely behind.

What was that about?

"What was that about Aph?" I asked, absentmindedly caressing her knuckles with my thumb.

"Hmm..., oh, my dads the chief, so they know me." She said as though she'd done this a million times.

Oh yeah, ohhhhhhhhhhh shoot.

"That's why you're parents didn't like me!" I joked, hoping to get a smile out of her.

"Well, no, my mom didn't like you because you outdid her in Everything." She laughed, but winced almost immediately.

"Leg." She said, taking notice of my worried expression.

I felt my insides get hot again, after just been cooled by me seeing her.

"When, I find those guys I'm gonna-"

A giggle cut me off as my eyes caught hers

"Aaron I'm fine, your fine, and I'll be going home in two days. Please do not go looking for trouble." It sounded almost like a plea.

"And well, I don't know what I'd do if you got yourself hurt or..."

Her eyes began to water, and she squeezed my hand for comfort.

"Aphmau..." I caught one of her tears.

She looked up, giving me the most broken smile I'd ever seen.

"I've been doing this a lot lately..."

I inched closer, careful not to bump her leg. I squeezed her hand.

"Aaron?...."

Do it.

I cupped her cheek, and still holding one of her hands, I kissed her very lightly on the lips, earning a small "mmph" from her. And for me, it felt like heaven.

But, I pulled away quickly, blushing almost as much as she was.

"Heh, does that help?" I asked sheepishly, looking at the floor.

I felt a small pair of lips hit my cheek, and a giggle.

"Yeah, it does."
