Nerves run through my body as I play with the tulle on my white ball gown dress. Pacing around the room wondering if this is all a big mistake.

"Don't think about that you love him." I tell myself.

Wait. Do I? I mean I should I'm getting married to him. We've been friends for a few years. I've been waiting for this. I'm just nervous and getting cold feet. That's all this is. Even though I'm 22 I think I'm ready. Sure I'm young but I know a few people who have gotten married around my age.

The door creeks open as my friend Grace walks in, "Hey Serena! How are you feeling?"

"Nervous but ready." I flash a weak smile.

"Well as your maid of honor I'm here to assist you with anything. Like if you need a getaway car there's one in the back."

I laugh, "I don't think I need a getaway car."

"If you do just tell me." she jokes, "need anything else?"

I hesitate, "I'm not sure. I'll find you when I need something."

She nods and leaves the room knowing to give me some space. It's silent the only thing you can hear is the ticking of the clock. Every tick means a second closer till the wedding starts. A second closer to me becoming a wife. I start to panic trying to find a way out of this. How can I do this? I'm not ready. I take my ring off and leave it on the table and write a tiny note apologizing to everyone. I text Grace to come and she appears almost immediately.

She's gasping for air, "I came here as fast as I could." she said between breaths, "What do you need?"

"The getaway car." I tell her.

"What?"

"The car. I need to get out of here."

"Let's go." she smirks.

_______

"I can't believe I'm doing this." I say as she starts the engine.

"Before we go I have to ask you... Are you absolutely sure you want to do this?" she looks into my eyes.

I look behind at the venue making sure that no one is suspecting anything, "Yes."

"Well let's go." she drives fast down the road. The venue gets smaller and smaller in the review mirror as we drive away.

Was there a better way to end this? Yes. But all I could focus on was finding a quick way out and this seemed like the only good option. I know sooner or later I'm going to have to face the wrath of my family and my fiancés family and all our friends.

"Where do we go?" she asks as we cruise down the highway.

"My house. I need to pack a luggage."

"Wait you're leaving? Where are you going?"

"Who knows? I just want to get out of here. Where no one can find me."

________

I finish packing the rest of my bags and head back to the car.

"I have no idea where I'm going but I have a passport and I want to leave. So can you take me to the nearest airport?"

"Yep! Hop in."
