Chapter 26

Marco's pov

My mouth still hung open as I sat there dumbstruck. I couldn't move. I must admit, I had a slight interest in Jade, but I never knew something like this would affect me so much.

I stood there, taking in everything, as Aliyah tried to run after Jade.

I couldn't help but feel nothing but anger as my hands balled up into fists. I needed to punch something right now, or I was seriously about to Injure someone.

I was out in the open, no plaster walls around, so I acted dumb and turned towards the brick wall of some company building. I punched as hard as I could. I instantly realize how dumb that was of me.

"Ow fuck!" I kept cursing as I held my hand, earning a few stares from people. I looked down at my tattered knuckles and sighed.

Blood was coming out from the impaled skin rapidly. I could even see bone in some spots. I fell back against the brick wall and slid down to the filthy ground. I heard quick-paced footsteps coming in my direction.

"Marco... Jade... She can... run really.. Fast.." Aliyah was panting. She finally caught her breath. "What's wrong? We can still get her ba-" she stopped as she saw my hand.

"What the hell marco?! What happened while I was gone?" She asked frantically as she leaned down to help me.

"We gotta get you to the hospital." She said in a worried tone as she tried to help me up. "No. Just look in my backpack, there should be a roll of gauze." I say. "Who the hell keeps gauze in their backpack?" She asks as she searches through my bag.

"Somebody who gets in a lot of fights." I retort. "Ooh, a bad boy." Aliyah says sarcastically as she brings the roll over to me.

"Sorry Chica, I'm taken." I say to her as she bandages up my hand. She doesn't respond, just continues to work on my hand. "There. Done." She says as she tosses the gauze to me and gets up.

"Where are you going?" I ask her as I use my good hand to push me off of the ground. "I'm going to find jade. Maybe you should do the same." She says coldly.

"But how are you going to find her? She could be anywhere right now. And you can't just run all up and down California." I say to her. "Who ever said I was going to walk?" She retorts as she walks away.

"You don't have a car!" I yell after her. "As far as you know." She says over her shoulder.

Jade's pov

*Three hours later*

I hugged my knees closer to my chest. It was freezing outside as the sky turned darker. I was sitting underneath a big oak tree in some type of park.

Many people have walked past me as I sat here for the past two hours. Some actually gave me some money, thinking that I was poor.

Well, I guess I was. I left my money at my apartment at least, so I don't have any on me right now.

My stomach was killing me as I finally got up. I saw a taxi driving down one of the roads, and I started flailing my arms like a mad-woman.

The taxi halted in front of me and I quickly got in. "I need to go to the Cherrywood apartment complex." I say to the man as I reach in my pocket for the money I was given.

"That'll be 7.56 ma'am." The driver says as he starts to drive to my destination. I count the money I was given and see that I have 8.34.

'Good.' I think to myself. 'Finally something good happens. After a few minutes, the man stops in front of the familiar building. "Thank you sir I say as I hand him the money.

"Keep the change." I say to him with a smile as I hurry Into the building.

"Jade! It's been so long! I was so worried about you." Sarah, the receptionist, comes over to me. Her and I became friends as I saw her everyday. "No, I'm fine." I say with a smile. "Just really tired." I add.

I start to walk to the elevator but she stops me. "Jade, you were gone for so long that Dylan (the landlord) had to give the room to someone else." She says sadly.

"I can just rent another room right?" I ask her. Her face falls. "All of them are either reserved or taken already. I'm sorry." She says with a frown.

"Where am I supposed to go now?" I ask her with a worried tone. "Everything is just falling apart again." I say. "Now it's gonna be okay.. Trust me." She tries to reassure me with a smile.

"Where is my stuff?" I ask her. "They put it in a storage unit not too far from here. They said if you ever came back for me to give you the combination." She says as she pulls a piece of paper from her pocket and hands it to me.

"Oh, an here's your wallet. They found it and I suggested for them not to put it in the storage unit." She says as she goes behind the desk. She looks through some drawers and then hands me the wallet.

I just stare at it before turning around and walking to the door.

"Good luck." She says from behind me. I just nod and walk out of the building and into the cold night air. I shiver some more and start to walk to the storage units. It begins to rain after a while and I curse under my breath.

How can this possibly get any worse?
