Mia Anderson. A name I thought I'd never hear again.

I struggle to open my eyes as the piercing sound of ringing wakes me from unconsciousness. My face is planted hard against the harsh asphalt road as my body lays dead flat next to a large chunk of the destroyed car. I try to move and get up, but I can't.
Shit. I can't feel my legs.
Suddenly, I feel a sharp, throbbing pain strike my temple so I place my hand on top of it in agony.
There is an extremely sharp piece of metal lodged into my head, pouring blood.
Shit. Mum and Dad.
I need to get up and find my parents.

As I try moving my toes, I can suddenly feel some movement. I then try and move my feet, then my legs, until my whole body finally gets enough feeling back into it to be able to stand up. As I bring myself up to my feet, sirens suddenly submerge from behind the dark forest and onto the debris covered road.

"Mum? Dad!" I yell as I stumble across shattered glass and metal to what's left of our family car.

"Mia?!" Suddenly a familiar female voice cries coming from the ruins.

"Mum? Mum! I'm over here!" I yell back to her as she appears from behind the car. I almost break into tears when I see her broken body. She has cuts and bruises everywhere with small shards of sharp glass embedded all over, except for her legs; her arms, shoulders and face especially, but she has a tear stained face with tears still rolling.

"Mia! Your head! We have to get you to the hospital right now!" She bawls as she leads me to a woman.

"Where's dad?!" I screech, knowing the answer I desperately don't want to admit as a woman picks me up and quickly jogs me over to an ambulance, placing me on a bed. I keep my eyes on my mum until my eyes are drawn elsewhere, the car. Three men are dragging out a butchered dead body... my dad.

That is the image I will never forget, haunting me for the rest of my life.
