Mark asked me out. I wasn’t so ecstatic about it, but I knew Brad was looking. That feeling of him looking was tingling. So I accepted. Brad walked by and bumped his shoulder into mine. For a split second I tensed up but I felt him back down and I took my chance to over-power him. I smirked. He started it.
No one messes with me. Not even you, Brad.
“Hey, I gotta go to class. See you tomorrow. Oh, and come however you want. You look good in anything.” He blushed for a second as if just realizing what he said then ran off. The bell rang and I dashed for class. I bounced into Brad along the way, knocking all our books to the floor.
Right. We have the same class today. What a drag.
“Oh, sorry!” I said before I could cover my mouth.
I was about to bend down to pick up my books when he collected our books, grabbed me by the arm and pulled me down the hall.
I tried to pull away, but his grip was too tight to wriggle free from.
“Brad… Let…Go!” I thrashed about.
“No,” He said plainly.
“Well then tell me where you’re taking me then,” I gave up.
“Here,” he opened a door and we both went in.
He closed the door behind us and flipped on the light switch. I think we were in the janitors’ closet.
Oh. My. God. He better not try anything on me, or I swear I will call the police and tell them he sexually harassed me.
“Please. Don’t go to the party with Mark,” hurt lurked in his eyes.
Those beautiful, violet eyes. I mentally shook myself.
Hell no! Do not be falling for this douche bag!
“That has nothing to do with you. So get your nose out of my business,” I folded my arms and tried to walk around him.
He blocked my way and said, “Samantha…Please.”
“Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t. Maybe, just maybe, I might listen to what you have to say,” now I’m annoyed.
“Just don’t. I know what kind of guy he is.”
“So do I! He’s my best guy friend! If I had to choose between my two best friends, I would so choose him now…after your girlfriend went and stabbed me in the back!” I yelled.
Tears stung my eyes, but I was not going to let Brad of all people see me cry. He stood there, stunned at my sudden outburst. I grabbed my books, pushed him aside with such force that he staggered to the side and rushed outside. I ran down the hallway and out through the school doors. People were still making their way to school so the gates were still opened.
“Samantha! Wait!” I heard Brad yell after me.
I didn’t look back. Instead, I ran to my motorcycle and drove out the school parking lot. Of course I ended up driving in the direction of Zach’s college. Today he did not have any classes. That’s why I’m always so happy on Fridays. I get to visit my brother. A tear rolled down my cheek.
How could she do this to me? Her BEST friend! She went against our promise…
The promise we made when we first met. Brad used to pick on me and I never used to put up a fight. One day on the play grounds in Elementary School, after Brad pushed me off the swing, she came up to me and helped me. I even remember the exact words she said.
“Hey. Don’t worry about him. He’s just a big jerk. I don’t even know what girl would date him when he gets older. I know I won’t,” She stuck out her hand to help me off the floor. I took her hand and said, “you promise?”
“Absolutely. I’m Luciana,” She smiled and helped me to my feet.
“I’m Al-…Samantha,” I was not going to tell her my real name.
“Cool. I could tell we’ll be good friends,” Her smile widened.
“Definitely,” I smiled back at her.
It’s funny…I remember that day like it was just yesterday. Another tear rolled down my cheek.
Focus! Now is not a good time to get in an accident!
I shook the tears and sadness away. For my brother I would fake my happiness. The thought still lurked at the back of my head…
