I stayed by her side. They carried her to a room and started one time. They hooked her up to a machine and what not. A blood sample was taken from her. Jacob looked at them with a pale face. He was worried about her. Mark, too, looked ghostly pale. He kept on pacing back and forth, shaking. A girl by the name of Luciana was there, too. She tried to get Mark to calm down a few times, but only made it worse because she was crying. Wow, she was not good-looking with huge, long streaks of mascara and eye-liner running down her face. Though I had only just met Alexis, instantly she meant the world to me. I was on the brink of breaking down. When they hooked her up to the machine that shows your heart rate…her heart was not beating. My eyes grew wide. Luciana broke down into more tears. Mark was down on his knees looking as if he, too, were about to cry. His eyes were wide and almost full with tears. I looked across at Jacob. His mouth was agape and his eyes began to water. He put his arm up to his eyes to -try to- hide his tears. I looked at Alexis. Beautiful, wonderful Alexis. Her body lay so still and looked so fragile. I only knew her one day, but it felt as if I’ve known her my whole life.

No! Alexis, please!” I begged her even though I knew she couldn’t hear me.

Mark finally broke. I could hear them all crying. I held her hand close to me and a single tear rolled down my cheek. It fell on to her hand.

*Beep*……*Beep*……*Beep*

Everyone stopped crying and their heads shot up to the monitor of her heart beat. She was alive. Luciana made this little sob noise, but you could tell it was of happiness not sadness. Alexis gripped my hand.

“A-A-Alexis!” Jacob yelled.

She groaned. Her heart beat went back to normal. She let go of my hand.

“Alexis!” He yelled more confident

She turned to the side and groaned louder.

“Alexis! Answer me!” Jacob yelled again.

“Shut up, you ass hole and let me sleep!” Alexis shot straight up and threw a pillow from under her head at him.

“Couldn’t you just let me die in peace!?” Her eye twitched.

Jacob fell on his back from the impact of the pillow. Not really from the impact, but more from the shock that she threw it at him.

Jacob groaned from hitting the floor and the corner of his mouth twitched as a small smile began to form.

“Come on. Don’t be like that. I couldn’t let my little Alex die.” He gently threw the pillow back at her.

“Plus. If he did I might have to kill him.” Mark chimed in.

He looks as if he didn’t even shed a tear or that he had a mental break down. Seriously, the guy looks pristine now.

I started to chuckle. Everyone looked at me like I went crazy.

“What’s so funny?” Alexis was the one to ask.

“Nothing. It’s just that, you four are best friends and even in a dire situation like this you still fight with each other,” I laughed more then continued, “it’s almost like you guys are a real family. And I should know because I came from a pretty damn big family.”

I laughed. Everyone looked at each other and realized how right I was and soon they started to laugh along with me. I glanced at Alexis. She was happy. She held her head and stopped laughing.

“Gah. Too soon to start laughing!” She flunked down on the bed.

It was silent for a while but Mark broke that silence.

“Saman-…I mean Alexis. Someone has come to tell you something.” He smiled.

“Huh?” She sat up anxious.

Luciana walked up to her and smiled a small, sad smile.

“Sa-…I mean Alexis…I’m sorry. I’m so incredibly so-”

Alexis cut her off by hugging her.

“Forget it. I missed you Lucy, and I’m sorry I was being a bi-…a female dog.” Alexis said in an almost sob.

“No, I’m sorry. I broke our promise and I was the female dog.” I know Luciana was the one crying then.

“I’ll break things off with Brad. Friendship is more important than a relationship with a boy,” Luciana smiled and tried to wipe away her tears.

Alexis just nodded and smiled.

A doctor came in a few minutes late and announced what had exactly happened to Alexis. Apparently she had a weak heart and over-exerting herself so much over the past few weeks seemed to have put a load of stress on it. I guess losing an argument to Brad may have been the final blow to her mind, adding stress to the heart. The doctor also said that her heart had given out due to the stress, but at the last minute it got a little kick-start and pushed forward. It’s pretty scary when you think about it, but I’m glad she decided to stay with us.

A few hours passed and they talked about the party Brad was holding tomorrow night. We devised a plan that, that was when Alexis would show Brad the power of her true beauty. Alexis is quite beautiful but I know that she would look even more beautiful if only she would stop hiding herself away from the world. Apparently she always wears big clothes that hide her true shape, dresses tomboy-ish to make sure she won’t get trampled over and has such a rough attitude to cover up the vulnerable little girl inside. Even with such a cloak to hide, she has already stolen my heart. If only she knew what she was doing to me. We may have met just today, but I feel like it’s my duty to protect her. And that is what Jacob and Mark, and even Luciana, feel toward her. They all feel like they must protect her, and make sure no one can break down the wall that she built up so they won’t see the real her and take advantage of it. I think I may have fallen for her blindly, but what can a foolish, old-school bloke do, right?

The plan was that tomorrow morning Jacob, Mark, Luciana and I will take Alexis shopping for an outfit suitable for a party. The party’s theme was olden English ball and after was a casual after-party.

I was a bit shocked when I heard that, but a little pleased as well.

I was appointed the role in helping them learn to dance and how to speak olden English, or at least proper English with proper etiquette. I will teach them all needed to know, especially how to waltz. But I was mainly appointed to teach Alexis, though. The others just wanted a free ride along in learning. Mark will then take her to the hair salon as they both get their hair done. After that, Luciana will take Alexis to a spa to get her nails done. Jacob, of course, wanted his share with Alexis. Apparently Jacob’s sister was good with makeup so he got her to do Alexis’ makeup. Finally we would all head to the party, even though I was not invited.
