Akillah had always watched birds and she wondered then if that was what flying felt like, leaving her body and soaring into the Sky. She'd left the crate behind and now she was drifting along beside the prince and his shining stallion. Watching the sun bounce of his wavy chestnut hair catching the golden strands as if they had been touched by the Sun. Her chest tightened as she felt his gaze travel over the crowd and grow closer to hers; her breath caught as his golden eyes landed on her and she thought he'd paused as their eyes met, but as soon as they'd come they moved on, smiling all the while.

Akillah felt a slight sinking feeling at the absence of his eyes, as if she hadn't been enough to hold them. But as soon as her thoughts had started to turn inwards she caught sight of the most beautiful carriage she had ever seen and her attention was captured, she was once again lost to a world of wonder.

The cheers seemed to grow in a crescendo as the carriage came closer and closer. The thick crimson curtains resembled freshly cut roses standing out against the pearly white of the carriage which was delicately covered in intertwining golden vines. Swirling into flowers and leaves and reaching the back of the carriage to form the royal family crest. The stallions leading it were relishing the attention, their ears pricked upwards in pride.

Akillah could sense a commotion beside her and was just about to turn and see, when a cracking sound pierced her eardrums, making her head ring and her vision cloud with darkness. She heard excited screams but was too shocked herself to feel anything but terror. As her vision cleared and she could see the startling whites of a nearby horse's eyes as if she could read its mind she realised suddenly what it was about to do.
