I may have agreed to Anika's request but I was convinced it was more my people pleasing tendencies than anything. I looked myself over in the mirror deciding that these jeans had too many paint stains and should join the pile of discards on the floor.
I let out a frustrated grunt and peonies sprouted at my feet. I looked down taking a deep breath. Calm down and assess whenever your powers slip students. We can't overcome our weak points without first understanding the cause. Professor Silvia had taught us that on the second day of class and it still hadn't fixed whatever caused my powers to sprout whenever my emotions got too strong.
When I looked up Anika was coming in. "Girl are you not ready!? We need to leave in like 5 minutes!"
"Thank god you're here! Please do your thing" I gestured to the flowers.
"On it!" She put out her hand and perfectly controlled burnt them to a crisp. I was still jealous of that.
"Thanks" I said genuinely grateful despite the tang of jealousy still on my tongue.
She had been going to Agnes's School for the Gifted for three years now so despite us being the same age and sharing a dorm room, she had all the knowledge in the world of her own more common powers where I was fully stumped on mine.
I grabbed her hand dragging her to my closet and the growing pile on the floor. "Please help." I gave her the best helpless look I could muster.
"Fine fine! Wear... this" she threw a long sleeved black scoop neck at me, "and... these." She tossed me a short skirt earning a look of "absolutely not" before rolling her eyes and throwing me the paint splattered jeans. "I don't know how many times I have to tell you the paint adds character."
"Fine but it's your fault if they laugh" I reply.
"They won't" she settles it with a firm look before turning to leave. "Be downstairs in 5"
