The hallway was dim and quiet. The soft, fadding heart beats ebbing through the walls. Ragged breaths smelling of blood and decay. The infermary full of my injured people. They had fought well. Their deaths would not be in vain. But as I looked in I saw the greiving families. The sons left father-less, daughters left mother-less. My heart tried to jam itsself in my throat. I turned away from the depressing scenes and continued down the plain white hall. We had made the right decision. There was no other option. Was there? Doesnt matter now. I had other, more pressing issues to handle.

This was going to be the hardest choice I would ever have to make. I had seen many of my friends die; I've even killed some myself to spare them the pain of torture.  It was part of being a Vellocet, part of the job, but this? She wasn’t being cut or broken for information. She wasn’t in a heated battle with an enemy. No, she was just a girl draged into a fight she knew nothing about. Now she was lying in a hospital bed waiting with the rest of my people to be saved, waiting for me to help them. That's alot of pressure for anyone to be under, no matter how strong they are.

I walked into the last room at the end of the hall and I saw how thin and weak she had become in just a few short days. Her now pale face marked only by the bruises given to her by those disgusting Litheites.  However when she was asleep as she was now she looked peaceful, worry lines erassed from her face. I sat in the chair beside her bed and looked at her face. She was just an inocent girl, she hadn't lived at all yet. I couldn’t end that, not ever.

I was so lost in my problem that I didn’t even notice she had woken.

"Have you found a way yet?" she whispered

I paused. "No." the look on her face broke my heart. I reached for her hand resting on the blanket. “But I swear to you I will find one. I won’t let them do this to you."  She weakly shook my hand off.

"You, are the one doing this to me. This isn’t my problem, and you expect me to die for it!" she spat at me with more venom than I ever thought she had.

I paused. "If that’s the way you feel, I’ll leave. But I will never stop looking and I will find a way to save you."  I stood up trying not to look her in the eye as I walked out the door.

"I just hope it’s not too late." I heard her say as I left.

I do not remember the last time I cried, but I will forever remember the feeling of warm tears rolling down my face at that very moment.
