"Ughh!" I exclaimed as the gravel bit into my cheek. I rolled in time to see the disgusting monster land on top of me and then see Cam tackle it from the side. He struggled with it for a moment trying to get a knife from his belt. The demon managed to get in a good punch and knocked Cam out. Then straight away went in to suck out Cam's Substance. Substance was our power. Our life force. It was like blood, had our specific DNA signature. And when Velloctes mated with humans and produced offspring, their Substance is passed on to them making them a Real Human. We felt obligated to protect them because we felt like they were part of us.
Before that thing could put its mouth to his neck I ripped my golden whip from around my waist and with a slight flick of my wrist it was around its neck. With another flick, I pulled it off my brother and threw it into a wall. It seemed that he would not give up so I pulled the big curved sword from my back. As I stepped forward I brought it up above my head and let it drop on to the demons neck becoming covered in demon gore. Demon bodies don’t disintegrate n the sun like some books and movies would have you believe because that would be far too convenient. No, demon bodies actually take longer to decompose than human bodies but start to stink a lot sooner. So just as I finish gathering and burning the little demon bits everywhere Cam comes to.
"Ooooh Alexis! You should have waited. I would have helped you...” when Cam and I were alone we tend not to use words as much.
"Yeah. Sure you would have."
"I would have.... but anyway thanks for getting that thing off me."
"What, you think I would leave it there?"
"No I guess not. But still. Thanks."
"No problem. Ahhhh there’s nothing like a good kill early in the morning."
"Ha-ha. Have you thought about what you’re going to do about Ruby?" At this I became silent. In my mind and out loud. I had no idea what I was going to do about this Ruby thing. Maybe I’ll just go to math today and talk to her then.
"But you hate math!"
"I know I hate math. But I miss Ruby and I need to talk to her."
"Fine. But don’t expect me to come and bail you out."
"I don’t expect you to do anything. I’ll just keep that in mind the next time I'm saving you pale ass."
"Uuugggh. Fine. Just think the word and I’ll come get you."
"That’s my boy!" I had won. He slung his arm around my shoulder as the body finished burning and we left the stinking car park. As I thought about how the teachers would not be happy about this I couldn't help but smile. The sun had just risen and a few students were starting to arrive.
I wrapped my arm around his waist and we walked into the school to go and find breakfast. We crossed the oval we silently laughed as we shared thoughts and memories through the mind link we shared. When I walked into the kitchen I went directly to the fridge and pulled out bread, bacon, eggs, hash browns, two apples and some Milo. Like I said before, between the six of us we ate a lot of food.
As I was cooking my hash browns and bacon and Cam was reading on the massive red couch that we had over in the corner, Capricorn appeared at my side. I mean that he literally appeared next to me. There was something about being albino that gave Capricorn the ability to become invisible.
"Hey loser." he said with his stupid smirk. I jumped so high I almost dropped the pan with my food. As I looked up to scold him I was distracted by the fact that he had changed his hair again. He was also a shape shifter like me (which I thought was totally unfair of him to be invisible and a shape shifter...some people got all the luck.... stupid people.) so he could change his appearance faster than a smurf on speed.
