Chapter 8:Safe...for a while

REY'S P.O.V (Lexy's dad)

Before out break

"Lisa are we going to the movies tonight baby?" I asked my wife through the bedroom door. "Yeah babe I'm getting ready then we can leave Kay?" She said. "Okay." I walked into the living room and turned on the news.

"This just in. An outbreak of the flu has hit America. It is the worst we have seen in ages. It is highly contagious and if you are infected you will have symptoms of tiredness, discoloration of the eyes and skin, high fever, and weakness. There isn't treatment for this epidemic yet but w- breaking news. The outbreak is deadly. There I no cure." My eyes widened and I looked outside . it was going to rain. Great. "Honey I don't think we sh-" I was cut off by a scream from out side.

"Help! Please someone help me!!" A woman was running down the street bleeding from her neck. I ran outside to help her. "Miss miss what happened?" I asked as I looked at her neck. It looked like she was...bit by something.

"M-my husband! He had the fever and then he stopped breathing so I bent down to see if I could hear his heartbeat and nothing! T-then I looked up and h-his eyes....they changed color.... They were yellow....I looked closer at his eyes and he g-grabbed me and bit my neck a-and I ran. H-he was followin- There he is!" She screamed as she pointed behind me.

I turned and there was a man...if you could call him that...hobbling down the street groaning. His skin was pale and had a green tint to it. His lips looked as if he had bitten them off. There was blood all around his- where his mouth used to be. I took a step back and watched as he came closer. He started to groan louder and limp faster.
'Bang!'

He dropped to the floor. I looked up and seen my stepson Andrew holding a gun. He just shot the thing. "Miss I-" I stopped when I look at the woman. She was on her knees with her head down. I walked closer to her but stopped when I heard Andrew cock his gun. "Was she bit?" I nodded. "But she was talking to m-" a loud groan stopped me. I turned and she was getting up. Her eyes were yellow and green. She looked dead.

  "You know how to shoot right Rey?" I nodded. He gave me the gun and I shot her in the head. I heard more screams come from all around and then I looked at Andrew and we ran inside the house. He carried a big duffle bag. "Where's mom?" "In the room." He nodded and  ran to his room and put some clothes in his duffle bag. "I suggest you and Mom pack or board up the house. There could be more coming." I nodded and went into my room and seen Lisa on the bed with a terrified look on her face. I walked over to her and held her. She started to cry. "Shh sh baby I'm here. You're safe." She nodded and sniffed. I hope my Lexy is safe.

Present day

Rey's P.O.V.

I smiled as I seen my baby girl hugging Andrew. She was safe. "Baby!" I said loudly. She looked up and her eyes widened. "Daddy!" She yelled as she ran over and hugged me tightly. I started to cry as I hugged her back. I heard her sniffling as I held her. "Daddy I thought you were gone." She cried. "Shh baby I'm fine. I missed you so much!" She nodded and wiped my tears. She stood up and pointed to the people who were with her. "These are my friends. You know Ceci and Diana. The brown haired one is Calum but you can call him Cal, he's Diana's boyfriend. The one with the curly hair is Ashton Ceci's boyfriend.  And the blonde and red haired ones are my boyfriend's. Luke and Michael. Don't worry daddy they are completely kind and loving. You don't have to worry about them mistreating me." She said the last part a little nervously. I nodded and stuck my hand out to both of them. Michael shook my hand first. "I-Its nice to f-finally meet you Mr Aguilar. I've heard so much about you from Lexy. S-She is an amazing gi-" I  cut him off. "I know all of this son. Though I haven't heard of either one of you before. The last boyfriend Lexy had was that Tyler kid. Man am I glad she ditched the good for nothing piec-" "Okay! That's enough daddy. I think they get it." She giggled. I nodded and looked around. "We've been here for about three days waiting for you. We said if you didn't show up in a week we would leave and give you notes if you were lost." I said pushing a piece of her hair behind her ear. She nodded.

  "Then pack up and let's go." She said as she looked around. "Where's Lisa?" I looked at her. "She went to get some supplies with Tank about an hour ago. She should be ba-" "We need to go! NOW!" Lisa cut me off as she ran to us with Tank behind her growling at the group of walkers behind them. Lexy looked at me and nodded as she and her boyfriends ran to shoot at the horde. "GET YOUR STUFF AND LETS GO NOW!" She yelled as they killed five walkers. I ran in the house and got the three duffle bags and jumped in  my truck with Lisa in the front and Andrew and Tank in the back.

Lexy, Michael, and Luke all hopped in their truck and we left as fast as we could. Lexy and Michael were in the back of their truck shooting at the walkers and Andrew was as well. We were safe... For a while. Now we have to find another place to camp out at for a little bit. As we drove down the road in a single file line, we got farther and farther away from town and deeper in the farm land. It was quiet but it wasn't too quiet. We would be fine for a while.
