Chapter 9:Someplace safe

As we drove further away I sat down next to Tank and scratched behind his ears. He was such a good dog. He was really quiet when it came to making runs for supplies. He only growled if there were walkers coming close to us. Then he would grab the handle of whatever bag we had and ran with us to the safe place. He was such a smart dog.
"Aye boy signal the rest to turn up here. There is a farm house not to far up here." I nodded and looked at Luke and signaled for him to turn left and Lexy and Michael did the same. I hope it's safe for a while wherever we're going. I didn't understand why this was happening at first. I was at my best friend Colt's house when it started.
-Flashback-
I was sitting on Colt's couch watching the game when it cut to a news report. "Aw come on we were about to win!" He said upset. I chuckled and listen to what the people were saying. "This just in. An outbreak of the flu has hit America. It is the worst we have seen in ages. It is highly contagious and if you are infected you will have symptoms of tiredness, discoloration of the eyes and skin, high fever, and weakness. There isn't treatment for this epidemic yet but w- breaking news. The outbreak is deadly. There is no cure." My eyes widen and I looked over at Colt. He looked the same way. "Well...that sucks." He chuckled nervously. I nodded. "Aye man I'm gonna head home. My mother asked for me to grab something from the store for dinner okay?" He nodded and got up. "Alright man see you later. And don't catch the flu." He laughed. I nodded and bro hugged him. "Later." With that I got in my Range Rover and drove to the general store to pick up some sodas.
   When I got inside, it was really quiet. I walked to the back of the store and grabbed two cases of soda and walked to the front of the store. I heard someone behind me. I turned and dropped the sodas. It looked like a zombie. It was a lady...I think. She looked familiar. Then it hit me. It was my girlfriend Grace. "Gracie?" I whispered. She just hissed at me. I snapped out of it and turned to run...but there were more. About five or six more zombie were looking at me. I looked for a way out. There was a path to the front door but it was risky. "I'm sorry Gracie...I love you." I said and pulled on of the shelves on her. Then I turned around and looked at all of them. They were getting closer. I knocked down two more shelves and grabbed anything that looked like it could help me. I grabbed a barbecuer cleaner and ran at the closest zombie and smashed its head. I did the same with all of them. They were spaced out so it wasn't that hard but still difficult for me to not get scratched. I ran to my car and started it. I had to get home to my mom and my step dad.
  As I drove I kept looking around me. It was so quiet. There weren't any cars. So I drove a little faster. Before I got home I reached in my glove compartment and grabbed my gun. I was down the street from my house when I heard a scream. It was a woman's scream. She was asking for help. She was in hysterics. I got out of my car right as she screamed and pointed behind my step dad. It was a walker. I got closer and shot it in the head. "Miss I-" he stopped when he seen her on her knees with her head down. He started to go over to her but I cocked my gun and he stopped. "Was she bit?" He nodded. "But she was just tal-" he stopped when he heard the thing groan. "You know how to shoot right Rey?" He nodded and I handed him the gun. He shot the thing in the head. There were more and more screams from around us. "Where's mom?" "In the room" I nodded. "Well I suggest that you and mom should start to pack it board up the house." He nodded and I went into my room. To think that yesterday was so nice too.
