It felt like an eternity in here. The room is small and boring. I mean literally, you can just walk in the room and become bored.
It was De'Lancey's old nursery but after De'Lancey turned 5 mom had packed all of the baby things away. I wanted to get out of the room read a book or something, but here we are staring at each other in silence and I can't take it anymore.
I have to get out of here; my head feels like it's going to explode.
"Mom, can we come out now? We have been in here for like....I don't know four hours." I asked annoyed.
"Honey, you've been in there for only 23 minutes." She replied.
"You really keep time?" I ask sarcastically.
"Why not, every bonding moment counts." She grins continuing to stare at her watch.
I'm so done with this.
"Ok, mom just stop... just stop with the whole bonding thing, you know this isn't going to make her talk. Besides, I have plans with Mara today; we're planning on going to the Crank for some Volleyball practice."
"Alex you know I don't like being out in that area, last time you were there you were out till 2 am and your lousy excuse was "traffic"." Mom said, using her fingers for quotations.
"Mom I already told you, Mara and I had a flat tire and neither of us knew how to change a flat so we had to..." I continued, but was cut off.
"Ok, ok, go ahead, Lancey has a chess tournament today, and I am meeting up Lizzie to show her my dress designs. I 'm sure you wouldn't want to be stuck with either of those, so I guess it will be ok." She said before looking up contently. "Just be back by nine." She quickly added.
"Mom, I am 17 years old. Don't you think you need to stop treating me like a child?" I said, rushing past her. I ran up into my room and grabbed my keys and purse.
Before leaving out my room, I glanced in the mirror to check over my appearance. I had my mom's thin figure, and shoulder length dark brown hair. Mom said I had my dad's bright blue eyes. Now that I think of it, I can't remember what his eyes looked like.
I had light sun-kissed from playing volleyball at the beach. I took my hoodie and volleyball duffle bag out of my closet and ran downstairs before my mother could give me any last minute safety rules. I opened the front door and slammed it shut not looking back.
Outside parked was my aqua blue Toyota. As I approached the car door, my cell rang. It was playing, "Just keep breathing" by We the Kings. I looked at the screen to see Mara's name.
"Hey Mara, what's up?" I said into the phone.
"The sky," She replied sarcastically. "You were supposed to be here 20 minutes ago."
"Sorry, mom held me up."
"Just hurry up and get here, before my mom changes her mind."
"Another fight?'
"Yup,"
"What about?"
"Last night, Michael came over and Toilet papered our entire house, he claimed it was dark outside and he couldn't tell whose house it was."
"Mara, I told you that boy was bad company." Michael was Mara's football playing, prankster, boyfriend.
"Yeah, yeah, I know, but we've been dating for three months now, and I would hate to end it over something stupid."
"Whatever, you ready? I'll be there in..." I trailed off, squinting at my GPS. "Ten minutes, according to my GPS."
"Seriously, Alex you still need a GPS, to tell you how to get to my house?" Mara asked inquisitively.
"Mara, you know how over protective my mom is. I'm lucky she didn't surgically implant a tracking device by now."
"Whatever, just hurry up and get here, my curfew is 10:00 and I want to have enough time to swing over at June Carter's party."
"Mara...." I started.
"C'mon Alex, don't be so uptight. Loosen up, have some fun! See you in ten." And with that she hung up. I sighed. I hopped in and started the engine. With that I took off on down Melanie lane.
When I arrived, Mara was outside sitting on the front porch. Her face looked flushed as she clenched her . When she saw me pull up I greeted her with a smile, but in return she grunted and slowly walked to the car.
"Mara, what's up?" I asked.
"Mom won't allow me to see Michael anymore." She replies in an angry tone. Finally, someone needed to get rid of him.
"Awww, Mars bars I am sorry." I said, mentally laughing at the ridiculous nickname I gave her.
"Would you stop calling me that stupid name! You think this is funny? No, it's not this is serious shit Alex! My mom is ruining my freaking life!" Mara then balls her hands into fists. Her face is red as beads of sweat collect on her forehead.
"Mara calm down you're sweating bullets and your eye liner is starting to run already..."
"What a fucking tragedy!" Mara shouts, throwing her hands in the air.
"Here" I said, reaching into my bag, and handing her a makeup wipe.
"I know what will make you feel better." I said grinning at her, my tone changing into a mischievous chagrin.
"Oh really? Forcing me to do stupid fucking volleyball that I am in no way interested in or good at? How bout' no?"
"Fine, how about we just go and ditch practice, and go to June's stupid fucking party?"
"Hell yeah let's do it!" she replies with a wide grin from ear to ear.
"Ok, let's do it" I said already regretting it, because somehow I knew that in the future I would be paying for it.

Ok, now we're getting somewhere. What do you guys think of Mara? I like her, she's feisty and a total badass. Don't worry her attitude will come in handy soon.
Also, I'm gonna need a cast soon, if you have any suggesting let me know in the comments below.
