I walk down the hall to the coaches office. Students are rushing in the opposite direction to the lunch room, which makes it difficult to walk without getting shoved to the ground or into the lockers. I reach the door that says Coach Jones in big letters, and knock. There's no reply so I knock again. There's still no reply. I open the door and say,"Coach Jones? Are you in here?" I don't see him behind his desk so I assume that he is at lunch.

I am about to leave when I notice something on his shelf. The rule book. I grabbed it and started to flip through it. I wanted to check the rule of who could play before I talked to the coach. It doesn't say that girls can't play. Which means that if I want to play, I can.

I put the book back on the shelf just as Coach Jones enters the room.

"What are you doing in my office,"he asked starting to get angry.

"I wanted to talk to you but you weren't here," I reply quietly.

"Why didn't you wait outside?"

"Because I didn't know when you were coming back."

"Well what do you want," Coach Jones asks.

"I can just come back later if it's more convenient," I said as I backed toward the door.

"No, no it's fine," he said waving his hand.

"Um, okay," I start, " I was wondering if I could be on the football team."

I look up to see Coach Jones staring at me open mouthed. I stood there awkwardly. All of a sudden, he started to laugh.

What's his problem?  I thought.

"You, want t-to be o-on the bot f-football team, " he said still laughing like an idiot. I am starting to get very mad. I clench my fists to keep from hitting him. I don't know why I am so mad but I am. Who does he think he to be laughing at my like a three year old to a potty joke?

"Yes, and do you have a problem with that," I ask.

"Yeah, your a girl, and it's to dangerous."

"I can do it."

"I highly doubt that," Coach says leaning back in his chair.

"How about the guys on the team decide if I can play," I say standing up taller.

"What?"

"You heard me. Let the guys decide."

"Okay, if the guys evaluate if you can play, and say you can be play, then you can be on the team."

"Seriously," I ask excitedly.

"Sure, but I highly doubt that they will let."

"Thank you Sir," I say turning around to leave. He only grunts in response.

I leave with a little bounce in my step. I quickly run to class so that I am not late. I walk in with a big grin on my face.

"I haven't seen you this happy since forever," Kim says. I just laugh and say,

"I'll talk to you later."
