No, your eyes are not deceiving you... This is an update!

Chapter 12

I stood with bated breath as I looked upon my own reflection in the mirror opposite my current stance. I tried incredibly hard to recognize the person standing before me, but so many things had been going on that I was beginning to look a little bit less like myself and a little more like someone I wasn't.

Was this to become my life now? Was I to be only the mate of an Alpha, a Female Alpha, and not who I was deep inside?

Lance Stevenson is my everything, he is the reason that living here in a place that I now have enemies is tolerable. I couldn't live without him, even if I tried, the thought pains me significantly.

This mythical world of werewolves that I'm now consumed in is do dangerous, so real that I'm not even sure I could pull myself away from it even if I wanted to. Nathan, Claire, Nick, Lilly.... and dare I say it... Lance. They are all a part of me now, a part of who I am and I don't think that I could live without them in my life.

I closed my eyes, letting a traitorous tear slide from my cheek as I tried to rein in my emotions. I had to be strong, for the pack, for Lilly, for Claire and mostly for Lance.

His life had just recently exploded, with Jane, his cruel ex girlfriend hurting everyone around us, around him, because he fell in love with me, his mate.

"Sarah, you have to keep it together." I murmured to mostly to myself. "Lance will be here in fifteen minutes to pick you up for the pack meeting with Claire... you have to hold it together."

Who was I kidding?

This whole insane scenario was because of me, because Jane hated me. I was the reason there was someone betraying Lance, betraying me, someone that was working for Jane, all because of me.

It was my fault, and two weeks ago when Claire and Lilly were declared "missing", courtesy of Jane, I knew that it was all because of me.

I had been scared at first, terrified even, but after the initial shock had worn off, I'd felt nothing but guilt.

It made me sick.

Claire, who had been nothing but extremely strong, considering her husband was missing, had been a complete mess that unforgettable day at Rays Pizza two weeks ago.

"He's missing!" Claire cried, her eyes red red and puffy. "How can someone kidnap an Alpha werewolf? It doesn't make sense! Nick isn't stupid, he would know if he was being attacked. He would-"

"Claire... maybe they caught him off guard, who knows?" I placed my hand firmly on hers in attempt to comfort her. "Let's not speculate on the details and focus on bringing both Lilly and Nick home. Okay?"

Claire simply nodded and placed the hand that was free of mine on her stomach. "He just found out that he was going to be a father and now..."

Claire choked on a sob and then moments later she began to bawl, which was not unusual for a hormonal pregnant woman. "What am I going to do?"

I squeezed her hand. "You're going to be strong and you're going to run a pack.and you're not going to stress about this, it isn't good for your child."

Claire nodded, tears still streaming down her cheeks. "I know that we haven't know each other very long Sarah, but thank you. I couldn't do this without you."

I smiled and squeezed her hand once more as I tried very hard not to let my own emotions cloud my judgement on this entire situation. "Lance and I will do everything in our power to help you find your husband."
