I was an absolute mess after Blair left me sitting there at the bar, alone. The only thing I knew that could get my mind off of her was the devil itself.
Alcohol.
I took shot after shot with Shaw until I couldn't even stand on my two feet. I knew I should have stopped shots ago but I needed this.
I needed to forget about her, even if it was just for the night.
**********
The next morning was hell. I couldn't even remember the last time I was this hungover. We of course had our morning practice and I of course had to face Henry after practice. I knew I would get double the shit because of last night.
I groggily walked into the practice arena with my head down and earbuds in. I was almost in the locker room when I heard my name being called.
"Patrick Kane!" I heard from the distance.
I slowly turned around to be greeted by Henry. Shit...
"We have a lot to discuss after practice." Henry said sternly while walking to the viewing part of the arena.
Just great...
*********
The whole practice was a constant bitch fit from coaches and teammates. It honestly felt like the whole world was against me, but I knew I deserved it. I shouldn't have drank as much as I did after being clean for so long. It was stupid of me.
I quickly got dressed back into my clothes and walked out of the locker room, looking for Henry.
"Patrick!" I heard Henry calling out to me.
"Dr. Montgomery." I said while shaking his hand.
"We have something to discuss. Can you meet me at my office?" He asked in his usual serious tone.
"Yeah I can. I'll see you there." I said as we both walked our separate ways.
I knew exactly what he wanted to talk about. It was obvious. Last night I made not only a fool of myself but also a fool of Henry. I deserved whatever I got at this meeting.
I quickly walked to my car, avoiding everyone in the process. At this point, all I wanted was to get this day over with. Thankfully, none of my teammates were still hanging around which meant I could go straight to the meeting without any road blocks.
Downtown Chicago was absolutely dreadful during this time of day. The last thing I wanted was to be here, right now.
I finally arrived at Henry's overly large office building and prepared myself for the worst. I walked out of my car and towards his building, trying my hardest to shake my nerves.
I greeted the lady at the front desk and she let me through to the elevators. I quickly walked into the elevators, past the guards, and clicked the button for the floor in which Henry's office is situated.
Finally the doors opened after what seemed like an hour long elevator ride. I slowly walked down the prestige white hallway and prepared for Henry's wrath.
To my surprise, the usual desk lady wasn't there but it was Blair...
Of course.
"Patrick I didn't know you guys had a meeting today." She said while looking down at the paperwork in front of her.
"You know I didn't either until this morning but here I am now." I said with an enormous hint of sarcasm.
"Well he's on a call right now.. Do you want anything while you wait?" She asked sweetly in her beautiful accent.
"Nope, nothing at all." I said while pulling out my phone and ignoring the brunette beauty.
"Listen Patrick I am..." Blair started but was admittedly cut off by her father's door opening.
"Patrick I'm ready now." Henry said while opening the door to his all glass office and sternly looking towards Blair.
"Well here goes nothing.." I whispered to myself while walking towards Henry.
*********
After 2 hours of Henry going off about my behaviour and going over his expectations with me, I was finally able to leave.
"Listen Dr. Montgomery, I'm really sorry about last night. I realize that I made a complete fool of not only myself but also your company and I am truly sorry." I said while shaking his hand.
"I appreciate your apology but just know that I only give one second chance. Don't blow it." He said while smiling and then walking back towards his desk.
I quickly left Henry to his work and began walking back towards the elevators when someone stopped me.
"Patrick what I was trying to say earlier before my dad cut me off is that I'm really sorry about last night. It was rude of me but I needed to leave. I hope you can understand." Blair said from her spot at the desk.
"Yup totally understood." I said while turning towards her and smiling my best fake smile.
"Good. Well I'll see you at the game tonight?" She asked with that god damn beautiful voice.
I nodded and walked towards the elevators. And once again, Blair Montgomery continued to be a mystery that was almost impossible to crack.
