*Patrick's POV*
It had been a few months since the day my heart was ripped out of my chest by the only woman who I loved more than the game.
It wasn't supposed to happen.
Blair and I were never supposed to happen. But it did. It happened just as fast as it ended.
The day I saw Blair walking the streets with that guy was the day my world stopped spinning. And the worst part of it all was seeing her smile that day. Any other day, I would've loved seeing that smile but that day it was different. It was different because that smile was from the real Blair Montgomery, not the Blair Montgomery hiding behind the strict business attire and the daddy with the money.
Seeing the true Blair Montgomery destroyed me more than it made me happy. It only destroyed me because it wasn't me who unveiled the true Blair, it was this random man who came out of absolutely nowhere. It wasn't fair. It wasn't fair that I had spent every ounce of my time trying to put the pieces together to solve the mystery and this guy comes around and destroys all progress I made.
I learned not to care with time though. I learned that she wasn't worth the countless nights spent alone, drinking my sorrows away. I learned that she wasn't worth the missed shots and every mistake I would make on the ice.
With time I learned that she wasn't worth my time. My energy. My soul. Or my love.
It hurt to come to these conclusions but with time and some tough love, it finally happened. I stopped caring about the women who I once cared about more then myself and started caring about anything. Anything that made me forget about her.
It was easy for awhile. Until I saw her again, walking down the same street I saw her last walking down with that man. I had spent every chance I could avoiding her but the day came where I was face to face with her again. Her features completely winding me. I had completely forgot how beautiful she really was. I completely forgot how much I cared about her. And I completely forgot the progress I made with trying to forget her.
"Patrick hi." She said unsure of my next reaction. I was speechless. Her voice, her eyes, everything about her had me mesmerized. I was caught in her trance.
"Blair.. um how have you been?" I said finally regaining myself.
"Uh fine. Everything has been fine. And you? You look good, healthy again..." She said with a faint smile. The smile I missed more than words could describe.
"I've been alright. Stressed with the holidays and hockey.. I've missed you, you know that right." I said reaching for her hand, without once thinking of my actions. She pulled away quickly but not before I noticed the faint bruising present on her wrist.
"Blair what was that?" I asked curiosity and anger racing through my body as I tried to reach for her wrists again.
"Nothing Patrick. It was nothing. I have to go.." She said while running the other way.
And just like that she was gone again. She was gone but not for long this time. I knew that I needed to help her. I knew that something was wrong and that she needed someone to save her. And regardless of everything else going on between us and in my life, I was going to be the one to save her.
I needed too.
