I practiced picking locks that night. My plan was to get Tom out, and then afterwards, go visit Olivia to see how her brain operation went.

My mom told me that they would be removing the part of the brain with cancer, and putting stem cells there. They've only tested it a few times, with positive outcome, so I wasn't too worried. The only problem was, I kept thinking about the embryos in the lab... And part of Olivia's brain will be made out of them soon.

However, it's better than cancer.

The fact that there was a small chance Olivia could die as they cut into her brain... That caused me quite a bit of anxiety. But that's worst case scenario... Right?

Kris was at our dorm. He was the one who taught me how to pick locks. Tomorrow Rachel was going to have an exam, so it would just be me and Kris skipping class to save my boyfriend.

I went to sleep at 4 am and woke up at 7... But I wasn't tired. I stared at the TV for an hour. Though I had no idea what I just watched. My mind was elsewhere.

So much could go wrong today...

I had to call Kris to avoid going insane.

We talked about how it's funny that he got dragged into all this. How we just met a few days ago when he drove me home. Such a weird way to meet someone who you go on a dangerous adventure with.

Even though he was trying to comfort me, time ticked by slowly. It seemed as though I was sitting there for years. Every minute felt like an hour. The whole day was going in slow motion.

Kris and I talked for an hour. Then I practiced picking locks and watched more TV.

Finally it was 12:20. Kris showed up at the door.

We didn't even say anything, just went to the car.

"Are you okay?" He asked, looking me straight in the eyes. His eyebrows were crinkled and he looked truly concerned.

"I'm fine." I mumbled.

He opened his mouth to say something when my phone rang.

It was mom.

"Just drive. I need to answer this." I said to Kris.

"ZOEY!! ZOEY HELP ME!!!" she cried.

"Mom! I'm kind of busy, what happened?"

"I already signed all the papers. They won't let me in. How do I stop them!?!" My mom said desperately, then she explained what happened. "I looked in Olivia's operating room. They're not changing a small part of her brain... They're getting rid of her fat. They're giving her a better face. They're changing almost ALL of her brain... They're making her perfect."

I sat in shock. "They can't do this to Olivia!!!" I yelled.

"Zoey, what can I do?"

"I don't know... Call the police? I wish I could come up with something."

"It's okay. I'll try that." She said. "Can you come down?"

I sighed. Can I? Tom needs my help right now. That should only take a few minutes to get him out. "Okay, I will in a little while. Try to keep them from doing anything."

I heard her sigh on the other end. "Okay, I'll try."

I hung up right as we parked in the back of the police station.

"Is anything wrong?" Kris asked.

"Nope. It's fine. Let's just do this."
