I huffed as I put the heavy binders in my locker, it was my first day and they were already really heavy. The students chattered about aimlessly around me, the things I heard were unbelievable. As in I didn't believe it, I always hated gossip. I felt as if it was the devils way of communicating orally, if he really wanted your attention he would do it physically, you know the usual falls (down the stairs), spills (all over your shirt so it looked like someone had shit on you), or the ever so popular hit (by a bus).
I looked at my schedule to see what class I had next; calculus... great. I sighed and started to make my way down the hall in the general direction of where I thought my class was, when I heard something. It was loud hissing whispers. I looked to where I thought the whispering was coming from and saw two people. They were barbies in the making, if they wern't already.
"OMG! Susan did you hear that Moses found his mate?!" One blonde questioned the other, Susan I'm guessing her name was.
"Don't believe that Casey, I'm sure that it's a rumor because I'm his mate." Mate?
Huh..... weird.
I shook my head and scolded myself for eavesdropping on their conversation. I walked into class not knowing that it had already started, so I had thirty or so students staring at me.....awkward much. The teacher raised an eyebrow in question and I found myself doing the same in return.
"Can I help you with something?" he asked in a bored tone.
" I'm new here, Hadley Hathaway."
I watched with interest as his facial expressions changed. He went from bored to slightly scared looking, yet I still didn't let my blank face falter.
"Right then Miss. Hathaway if you will find a seat...." he trailed off.
I looked around and noticed the guy I had bumped into and his crew looking at me. I ignored it and took a seat next to the tingles guy, I could feel his gaze on me throughout the whole period. Yet, I welcomed it rather than made it awkward, his gaze made me feel safe and protected. Two things I hadn't felt in a while.
I was taken by surprise when the bell rang, and a preppy looking, dirty blonde haired girl with a shy looking brunette behind her pulling up to me.
" Hi! I'm Kimiko and this is Emilia, we heard through the grapevine that you were new here and we want to invite you to sit with us and our friends." I mulled over her offer for a minute.
" OK, My name is Hadley and I would be honoured to join your table at lunch...... When is that by the way? I forgot." I said sheepishly
She giggled and said " It's right now actually. YAY!!" she said way too over enthusiastically. When she noticed my startled face she explained
"I have a thing that I do, getting way to excited is one of the symptoms." she replied sheepishly.
I blinked for a second then burst into a round of uncontrollable laughter. They waited until I calmed down slightly, and I noticed that they both looked really proud of the fact that they had gotten me to laugh.
They pulled me towards the cafeteria and all I could think was 'Please don't let anything go horribly wrong"
