As Tessa changed, she expected to hear the sound of small voices, and receive little shocks all around her body.. But in a split second, she was taken from the darkness, like a massive hand grabbing her out. Had she done something wrong? No, she hadn't. Why couldn't she get through?
She tried a second time, clutching the chain hard in her hands with her eyes squeezed shut. She fell into the darkness, but then was quickly yanked out of it again. AGAIN. What happened to her?
She sighed. She opened the door and went downstairs to the dining room, to find that everyone had disappeared. Where did they go? She walked around the institute, hoping to find someone who she could tell the news. She would probably want to talk to Maryse, she seemed to be able to talk to her very comfortably.
After a few corners, she heard noises of blades slicing. She turned to her right seeing a massive room with a ton of weapons hanging on the walls. Training room. She peeked her head into the room to see Jace - Wait Jace? She couldnt go in there. Not without panicking or bursting into tears. Oh, how she missed Will. And Jace Herondale reminded her exactly of him... It may have been a long time, but everyday, she could never forget. She quietly pivoted her foot, stepping back in the other direction. But just as she did, the door swung open and a hand was on her shoulder. She let out a terrified scream, and turned around to realise it was Jace.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you," Jace puffed out breaths with sweat dripping off his head.
"It's okay. It's just.. I, well.." Tessa paused for a moment. "It didn't work. I don't know know whether it was me or... I just don't get it. Johnathan Morgenstern might have done something to prevent me from getting to him.. But I really just don't know." Tessa passed Jace the necklace.
Jace shrugged, showing no emotion. But deep down, he was gutted.
"How about you try changing into someone else? Maybe Isabelle? To see whether it works." Jace walked back into the weapons room, picking out an electrum whip. He passed it to her.
She took it, unsure of herself. She closed her eyes once again, and felt herself tumbling into a never ending darkness. She drew on her memories, she opened up her mind, and felt tiny shocks and stings all over her body. She felt her self expand with the clothes tightening around her. As she blinked her eyes open she looked up at Jace who stared at her in shock.
"Did it work?" Tessa questioned hoping that it worked and her powers weren't lost forever.
"Um, yeah I think it did." Jace still standing with his mouth open. "Okay, let's try it out. What is your full name?"
Tessa searched through Isabelle's thoughts and memories.
"Isabelle Sophia Lightwood."
Jace smiled, impressed.
"How old are you?" He asked.
"16" She answered.
"Who do you love?"
"Simon Lewis."
"And what is the first thing that pops into your head when you think of Simon?"
"Well, um....... Sex."
Jace grinned, trying to hold laughter in for just a single few moments, before he burst out in a fit of laughter. Tessa took this as an opportunity to change back.
"So now that we know that I can, I can actually shapeshift, Johnathan may have some sort of block or something that's stopping me from getting to him."
"It's okay Tessa. I'm just happy that such a special and kind person like you is taking our side. Oh, and remember not to tell Isabelle! She would kill me if she found out what we did."
Tessa truly smiled, for the first time in a long time. Oh, the Herondales. Soft little tears fell from her eyes and traveled down her face.
"Tessa? Are you alright?" Jace questioned worriedly.
Dozens of beautiful memories rushed into her head of Will and her, from him taking her on dates in the city, the tender kisses that they shared, his beautiful smile, his sweet accent, and those words:
'Dw i'n dy garu di am byth'- I will always love you. She always remembered those words.
"Will, Will Herondale. I miss him."
