Set in the future.150 people live on a space station, sent to colonize an inhabitable planet. Space travel has been deemed as safe as flying in a commercial airplane. Transporting such a large number of civilians requires a large aircraft/space station known as Phantom Tango 2-9. The flight is set for three years. In this time, people's lives must continue. The space station, Phantom, is established as small community filled with services such as schools and continued careers in the areas of research, agriculture, and assembly. The civilians are protected by members of the military known as Shadows. Shadows are specially trained soldiers whose sole purpose is to monitor the behavior of the civilians as well as guard the Phantom. They are extremely strong and seem almost emotionless to the civilians. They remain on the outermost edges of the community earning them their name, Shadow, because they are quiet and are instructed to not engage with civilians unless necessary.

Civilians life aboard the Phantom is for the most part mundane and predictable. However, a run in with an asteroid field causes some strange changes to occur on the ship. The cracks on the ship appear to have let in some unwanted visitors that not even the army of Shadows can restrain. The cracks on the ship appear to be a representation of the cracks beginning to appear in some of the civilians minds. People begin disappearing but the Shadows and flight crew are quiet as to the cause
