"Why do I keep needing you when I know I'll get hurt?" - BTS

『Pure』

"Hey, you coming over today? My mom's making curry and she wants you to come over, since your mom isn't home." Having morning classes, I decided to head back home, instead of going out with the boys, just to be greeted by my overly excited mom. She came right at me with a big metallic cooking spoon and hit me right on my head with it, as soon as I opened the door.

"Invite JiNa over, I'm making curry." Is what she told me before she went back into the kitchen. The bump forming on my head was no lie. I'd probably look like a unicorn in a few minutes. This woman is crazy...

I put my leather bag down on the circular glass coffee table and went into the kitchen to meet my also short mom. Dad was working again, he barely gets any days off and when he does, he spends it catching up on sleep he missed out on. We never really go out as a family. The last time I've been out with the both of them was when I graduated into high school. That night was truly unforgettable. Mom spilled the orange soda on her cell phone so we all went out to buy her a new one, after we ate. That night, I also got scared by the squid's eyes and started crying, even if I were going into high school.

I hung up the call with JiNa and as soon as I put my phone down, it started buzzing uncontrollably while the song 'Home' by Roy Kim started playing. I almost didn't want to answer the call, just so I could listen to the song.

But sadly, I did anyways. I left a mental note telling myself to listen to the song later.

"Hello?"

"Hey, don't get angry, but..." the other line went dead silent until I heard the beep of the phone, telling me that the call ended. The hell is wrong with JiNa? I didn't really feel like calling back. What's the point on calling back if she always calls me for five seconds and then hangs up?

"Mom, was it really necessary to hit me with thatㅡ or even hit me at all?" I asked, tasting the food that she made. It needed a bit more salt, but it didn't look like she was done. She just shrugged at me with a smirk, while adding potatoes into the curry.

"What side dishes do you want?" The woman never asks me what I want. She hardly ever cooks, it's probably because I'm never home to eat what she cooks. Before school starts, I'd always grab a chocolate bar or sometimes I don't even eat at all. After school, I'd usually go out with the boys and JiNa and we'd get jajangmyeon. My dad also was never home. He always eats out, since he comes home at twelve in the morning. My mom would be sleeping by then and he'd never want to disturb her. I wonder if she ever feels lonely in this big house all by herself.

"Anything is fine. Just cook whatever you want... since you're the one cooking." I can't even help her because I was given the gift of having the power to burn everything I try to cook. When I wake up in the morning, I try to make some toast so I could eat it on the way to school, but somehow I always burn the poor slice of bread. Naturally, I gave up. I achieved more sleep by giving the burnt bread to the gods.

She didn't look so happy so I casually slipped away from my normal cold bitch self and kindly requested kimchi. My mom made kimchi just yesterday so she didn't have to worry about making anymore. She actually looked happy, the woman just wanted me to put in a request!

"Mom, why are you making so much rice and curry? We could keep all of this curry until next year!" She casually hushed me by sending me to my room, which I didn't miss out on the offer. I took my leather bag in my hand and started unbuttoning my shirt as I dragged myself to my room upstairs.
