"Can I come in?" Theo says, his voice deep and warm as he rests his hand on the door handle.
I turn my head slightly to face my open door, my eyes still puffy from staring at the ceiling for hours. I don't say anything as I stare at his figure, the light from the passage behind him while the dark fell on him, I may be able to hear his voice but I couldn't see his face.
"You missed dinner, your family makes some mean tacos," He tries to break the silence.
Sighing, I return my gaze to my ceiling, words unable to form. I don't want to see him, this stranger that wants me to be his even when he knows that I 'belong' to someone else.
"What do you want?" I bark. He steps into the room, his eyes watching me as if expecting me to pounce at any moment. I don't, instead I listen to his footsteps approach, and imagine how to kill him without making it look like a murder.
"To apologize."
This however takes me by surprise. I shift my gaze so that it falls on him, my eyebrows furrowed. Then I clicked. "My dad sent you to apologize to me for him, didn't he?" I scoff.
It's exactly the kind of thing he would do. He may call himself strong, but he is more of a coward than a mouse. And he can't even see it. The edge of the bed dips slightly as Theo sits.
I fight the urge to kick him off.
"No, I came to apologize on my behalf," He whispers, sincerity laced in his voice. I send him questioning glare in response, hoping he would just leave me with nothing and fetch my Dad. But instead, I listened.
"I've been an orphan since I was 9, I still remember my pack and my parents. But I remember the brutal murder that happened the night they were killed more. The way the other wolves clamped their jaws around my parents necks while others bit the rest of my family to pieces," He explains his eyes set on the floor.
"I was sent to an orphanage straight after, and when everyone asked me where my parents were, I'd say 'in the wolves' tummies' naturally they all thought I was crazy when I was telling them that when I was 12. So, I stopped telling them the truth and just said 'dead'. The truth is, it hurts more to say they are dead than eaten."
"Get to the point."
"Okay, when you Dad offered me a to be a part of the pack I was thrilled, cautious but thrilled. I could finally be a part of a family, instead of living alone. But then he told me that it will come with a price, at first I was expecting it to be I'd have to do all the chores or something, but then he said I'd have to mate with you, I was taken back," He whispers, his eyes falling on me for a split second before returning to the floor.
"Why didn't you refuse?"
"3 years back, I found my mate, I was only 16 and nobody told me how it works. I thought I was experiencing normal teenage boy hormones. But when she rejected me, I didn't expect it to hurt so much. That's why when you Dad explained to me that you have to reject your human mate, I figured I might as well be a gentleman and help you. I didn't expect him to want me to mate you this soon," He finishes.
I stare at him, wide eyes.
"And how did you think that by mating me would be a good thing to do?" I almost scream. He opens his mouth to respond, but I cut him short. "You don't honestly think that because I have a human for a mate that I am unhappy? Better yet, do you really think you can fix that?"
"You'd have to reject him, you can't have a human leading your pack. What happens when someone tries to take your territory?" He asks, his tone border lining defensive.
