Chapter 2

An Ally’s Arrangement

Drip drop… Drip drop… was all that Rita could hear in her prison cell as water droplets leaking from the ceiling formed a puddle not far from Rita. She had to think of an escape plan, there was no way she would be staying there for long! Although Rita was certain that never in her life had she seen or been inside these walls, she had a strange feeling of déjà vu. She looked around the cell; it was very empty and hollow. There were bones lying on the floor and Rita could nearly hear the screams and pleads of the prisoners which were trapped in here before which was not a pleasant feeling. All she wanted right now was to get out of this miserable cursed place and have a breath of fresh air rather than the smell of death which was present in the cell.

Suddenly, a rock quivered on a wall next to Rita before it fell out of place and bounced about a meter away from the wall. Some more rocks later, Rita found that there was a head of a girl which she met earlier with a purple bow sticking though the hole, grinning broadly and clearly proud of her destructiveness.

“I knew it was you who they put next to me! Say… you wanna get outta ‘ere, right?” the girl smirked as she examined Rita who was full of cuts and bruises due to being dragged all the way to the tower, “They beaten you pretty badly or do you simply enjoy pain?”

“Unless you’re trying to imply that I’m a masochist and inflicted this pain on myself, I suggest you shut up and don’t sound so sarcastic” Rita answered coldly, she did not like anyone other than the Rebels let alone let anyone ridicule her.

“Tsk, I’m just messin’ with ya,” the girl pouted, “You’re no fun… But beside your strange hobbies, you wanna know how to get outta ‘ere?”

“Will you cut the accent already?!” Rita was starting to get annoyed, “And stop playing the jokester while you’re at it!”

“You knew I was faking it? You’re pretty sharp… Darn it… And here I wanted to see what it was like to talk like a farmer…” the girl sulked but after deciding that it did not matter too much, smirked again, “I’ll ask you one last time – you in or out?”

“How thick skulled are you? Of course I would want to get out of here! Isn’t it obvious?!” Rita roared while her voice echoed in the cell and the corridor.

“Hush, you’ll startle the guards and I dunno about you but I’m pretty sick and tired of this place since I’ve been here for hours!” the girl complained.

“Well…you know… I’ve been here for like 5 minutes but whatever” Rita shrugged, “What’s your plan, shorty?”

“Shorty?” the girl looked annoyed, “You’re going overboard. Just ‘cuz you’re freakishly tall, doesn’t mean that the rest of us are short!”

Rita flinched at the mention of her height – she had what one would refer to as a ‘Height Complex’. Putting everything aside, Rita focused on the main task ahead.

“So what’s your plan?” she asked calmly.

“Weeeell… I… kind of dug out a tunnel…” the girl started to mumble.

“Kind of?” Rita was starting to get annoyed again; this girl was too much to bear with.

“Okay, I dug out a tunnel!” the girl lifted her hands up in annoyance but quickly put them down after they hit the rocks on the top of the hole she made. She then finally pointed to a hole in the ground in her cell to proudly display her hard work, “You coming?”
