The date was the 7th May, 2013. One whole year had passed since I had left Kanto with my three best friends; Steven, Toby, and Sarah. We had travelled arouund the region of Sinnoh, honing our skills in Pokémon battling, whilst also knowing that one-day the evil we had battled before would emerge again. We knew that we had to return home one day, but we never expected it to be so sudden.
.
We were on Route 212, North-side, resting by a river when we received the call from Professor Oak. From what I could gather, large cracks had been appearing all around Kanto for no apparent reason. Energy readings taken by Scientists were going off the charts, to the point where they would explode within 10 metres of the cracks. That was all Professor Oak could say before the phone line went dead. Afterwards, my three friends and I had unanimously agreed that our vacation in Sinnoh was over, and it was time to return to Kanto and resume the battle we had left behind. Now, in the present time, we were on the ferry back home.
.
"What do you think is happening all around Kanto?" Sarah asked, approaching me as I looked out across the never-ending sea.
.
"I dread to think..." I replied. "These cracks sound dangerous, though. I heavily doubt they're natural, either..."
.
Before our conversation could progress any further, both Sarah and I were thrown onto the floor as the ship lurched to the left. Clinging onto the handrail for support as the ship slowly regained position, we noticed Toby hurriedly, yet cautiously, run towards us.
.
"Sam! Sarah! Are you okay?!" He shouted at us, while maintaining balance.
.
"We're fine!" I shouted back. "What hit us?!"
.
"You won't believe this, but-" Toby was cut off suddenly as the 'thing' that hit the boat suddenly leaped up from the water, causing a giant wave to crash onto the deck.
.
"K-Kyogre?!" Sarah shouted worriedly.
.
"What's the legendary Pokémon from Hoenn doing in Sinnoh waters?!" I similarly shouted, battling the sound of the fierce waves flowing onto the boat following Kyogre's sudden emergence.
.
"More importantly, why is it attacking us?!" Toby yelled.
.
"Sam! What do we do?!" Sarah said to me, worry in her eyes.
.
Regaining composure, I stood up straight and pulled out a Pokémon Ball from my pocket.
.
"We fight it!" I shouted.
.
"What?! That's a legendary Pokémon, Sam! The ruler of the Seas! You can't just defeat it in battle!" Toby yelled at me.
.
"If we do nothing, it'll destroy us! I can't sit around and do nothing!" I replied.
.
"Go! Croconaw!" I shouted, throwing the Poké Ball high into the air. My first ever Pokémon, and trusty partner, appeared from the whirl of light that formed whenever a Poké Ball was opened.
.
"Use Brick Break!" I commanded. Croconaw leaped high into the air, its arm raised preparing to slam down a powerful blow on Kyogre. However, the legendary Pokémon quickly unleashed a Hydro Pump on Croconaw, causing my Pokémon to plummet back down to the ship and be knocked out immediately.
.
"Such power...!" Toby said in both fear and wonder.
.
"You fools!" A voice suddenly shouted at us. "You can't simply battle against Kyogre - its power is far beyond any Pokémon you might have on you!"
.
The voice belonged to an elderly man who looked like he was in his early seventies. He had no hair on his head, dressed in a white robe, brown sandals, and carried a small walking stick with him.
.
"Who are you?!" I shouted at the man, still battling the sound of the waves.
.
"My name does not matter right now. Introductions shall come another time. First, allow me to deal with this Pokémon..." The elderly man said to us, while walking towards Kyogre.
.
Upon seeing the man, Kyogre became enraged and prepared another attack. Instead of running away, the man simply stopped walking and looked up at Kyogre.
.
"Old man, watch out!" I shouted, as Kyogre was about to unleash the attack.
.
However, the man simply thrust out his palm, and said one thing to the beast: "Stop."
.
Much to our amazement, Kyogre suddenly stopped its attack completely. The waves stopped flowing, and the sea became calm. The old man spoke once again, this time simply issuing the command "Leave".
.
Kyogre let out a bellowing roar, but then began to swim away, before it disappeared underwater and completely out of sight.
.
"How...How did you..." I muttered, trying to ask the old man how he had just commanded the mighty Kyogre to stop attacking the boat.
.
"It is as I feared..." The old man whispered to himself. Afterwards, he turned to face Toby, Sarah, and me and started to walk away. "Excuse me, children, but I must make a phone call to someone. It is of high importance. I am certain that we will meet again someday."
.
"Wait! How did you-" I tried to ask the question again, however it was too late. The old man disappeared round a corner, and away from sight.
.
Toby's voice brought me back to reality. "Sam, we should tell Professor Oak about this. He might have an answer as to why Kyogre attacked the boat."
.
I nodded in agreement, and then turned my gaze up towards the loudspeakers mounted on one of the walls of the boat as an announcement was made.
.
"Hello, ladies and gentleman. The captain has just informed that despite the heavy waves we just hit, we are now proceeding smoothly towards the Kanto region, and will arrive shortly. Please make sure you collect all your belongings before leaving the ship. Thank you for sailing with us."
.
I looked out towards the sea, and could see Kanto slowly appearing in the distance. The great land of which I called home.
.
"I'm home." I muttered to myself.
