With construction of St. Bastion Haven completed, the Metro Police began to move their inmates who had been classified as criminally insane into St. Bastion. The facility was constructed to house the city’s criminally insane, as well as Dr. Nunn’s patients.Dr. Nunn was especially glad that the facility had been completed because he wanted to start work on Jacob Bannister.Jacob was the primary reason that Dr. Nunn agreed to head the asylum. He felt that with the vast resources that he’d have at his fingertips, he’d be able to better help Jacob with his problem.Tony had stopped by to visit the asylum also.He had become concerned about Jacob’s condition also.He felt sorry for Jacob’s wife and child. They both had to suffer, along with Jacob, through his savage rages. He wanted to see Nunn cure Jacob probably more than Jacob’s family.
“How are things going, doctor?”Tony asked.
“Fine, Mr. Smith,” Nunn started, “I suppose, however, you mean Jacob specifically.”
“Yes, not that the asylum itself isn’t important, but I’m a bit more concerned about Jacob.”
“I understand,” said Nunn as he motioned to Tony to follow him.“Jacob has been coming along well. The only problem is that, we can’t find any means of stabilizing him.His adrenaline rushes seem to get more and more frequent and stronger with each episode.I’m bringing in an old colleague to help me to find a cure for Jacob, Dr. Maria Chaz. She’s a psychiatrist, but she specializes in neurology.”
“That sounds good.Well, I’m going to get going.Keep me informed please.”
A few days later, Dr. Maria Chaz arrived at St. Bastion Haven.Dr. Nunn immediately introduced her to Jacob.Dr. Nunn and Dr. Chaz worked strenuously for a couple of weeks assessing different means of treating Jacob.Dr. Chaz finally determined that an inhibitor placed on Jacob’s head would be the best means of stabilizing Jacob’s brain patterns.Because of Tony’s extreme concern with Jacob, Dr. Nunn called Tony in to talk to Dr. Chaz about the procedure.
“So tell me, Dr. Chaz is it,” Tony started, “Exactly how does this procedure work?”
“Well, Mr. Smith,” Maria began, “The procedure would require us to place implants into Jacob’s brain. The inhibitor would then be placed around Jacob’s head and control Jacob’s brain patterns.”
“I’m not quite following.” Tony said a little confused.
“The reason Jacob lashes out as he does is because for some strange reason his stress levels increase tremendously.Along with his stress levels, his adrenaline and strength also increase, making it difficult to stop him.The vast assortment of pills and tranquilizers that Dr. Nunn has used on him has also made him extremely tolerable to just about any other form of medication. Therefore, I advised Dr. Nunn that the best means of treating Jacob at this stage is a neural inhibitor.”
“I see,” Tony started,“Have you spoken to Jacob’s family?”
“Yes,” Dr. Nunn answered, “Mrs. Bannister has agreed to the procedure.”
“Well, I guess I should wish you both luck.”
Maria and Barry worked to put together the inhibitor for Jacob with the doctors of the asylum. It took weeks for them to get the schematics together for the inhibitor, but they finally completed it.They injected Jacob with tranquilizers to allow him to rest as they performed the procedure. The procedure went well and they kept Jacob over a couple of weeks to monitor his reactions to the inhibitor.Feeling confident that the procedure had been a success, Maria and Barry agreed to allow Jacob to return home.
“Dr. Chaz, Dr. Nunn, are you two sure about releasing Jacob?” Tony asked.
“I think he will be ok,” Dr. Nunn answered.
