In the heart of Metro’s underground a sinister laugh echoed through the streets of Hell’s Alley.A tall, dark figure loomed through the alleys as he returned to his glamorous home within the depth’s of Metro’s impoverished under belly. He gathered his men to follow him into his dwelling. He gathered them around a series of monitors, which displayed various villains, which had inhabited Metro City.It was the infamous Jackal.
“My dear friends,” the maniacal one insisted, “I have sat by and watched as our city’s knight in shining armor has toppled one of our brethren after another. However, he is still the same boring, stale, idiot that he’s always been.”
“So is it time to terminate the bird boss?” asked a furry ape-like man who was known as Simian.
“Of course not, Simian,” smiled the Jackal, “Old beak face is too good to be killed.Death wouldn’t teach him anything. He has to learn how to have fun, and I’m going to send him through Comic Theater 101.”
The Jackal’s Mutates looked on in dismay at what their leader had said.
A few days later in Hawk Mountain, Tony, Brenda, Brandon and Jeffrey performed their routine maintenance of their headquarters.Brenda worked diligently on the computer files.Tony performed the inventory on the Hawk weapons and suits.Brandon assisted Jeffrey with the maintenance of the vehicles.Brenda, after going through the files, turned to Tony with a question.
“Tony,” she called.
“Yeah, Brenda,” Tony answered from within the arms closet.
“I see you have a substantial file on all your villains here in your Rogue’s Gallery except for the Jackal. Why is that?”
“That’s quite simple Brenda,” Tony responded, “The Jackal was the first of my adversaries and a very formidable one at that.Unlike most of the people I’ve fought here in Metro, however, the Jackal seems to have no M/O.”
“What’s that?” Brandon interrupted.
“I believe Master Tony is referring to a mode of operations, Master Brandon,” answered Jeffrey.
“Yes,” continued Tony, “The Jackal was the only man that I nearly killed also.”
“Why is that?” pondered Brenda.
“The Jackal was responsible for my father’s death,” Tony began solemnly, “He is the reason why I’ve become what I am.His antics are unpredictable and spontaneous. If not for Vivica, I’d probably have murdered the Jackal during my first encounter with him.”
“So did you ever figure out what happened to him?” Brandon asked.
“No.I can only hope that he stays under whatever rock he has crawled under.”
In the weeks that followed, a series of baffling crimes had sprouted up in the city.As usual, Chief George Thompson led the investigation of the string of crimes. Also as usual, the chief called in his friend who had helped him climb the ranks of the police force quicker than anyone ever had.He called for the assistance of the Knight Hawk.
George awaited the arrival of the Knight Hawk in the old park where they usually met.He still couldn’t believe how things had turned out.He would never have thought there could have been so many insane, maniacs running loose in the city.He realized how wrong he was when he thought back on criminals like the Arsonist and the RatFink. The criminally insane had overrun his city and he had to depend on an anti-hero to help him save it.Someone who could have very well been just as corrupt as the villains that he put away.He trusted the Knight Hawk though. The winged avenger had many opportunities, if he so chose, to steal away the city if he liked.Without the Knight Hawk’s form of justice, Thompson thought, the city would be far worse than it was.
