I Remember You
I stood there, dazed and looking at her face. Who was she? I most definitely know her. It's positive I've seen her somewhere, but where? The brunette locks that gently fell down her back in a careless manner, the way her hazel eye's stared distracted at something for a long time, and the nervous bottom lip biting, which she did ever so often kept me pondering.
"Hello? Sir the papers. Excuse me, sir..." I shook my head to remove that thought.
"Ah yes. Thank you." I replied in a tone that showed I cared but only because it was my job. Linda didn't catch that, so instead she walked away blushing. I looked around, searching for the mystery girl. When our eyes met, I tried to lock her attention for a while. She blinked, and the moment was over. I hurried towards her and reached for her arm. "Hi." That's it? I could'nt say more because I didn't know what to say.
"Hello." She nodded.
"Can I help you with anything? I'm the manager of E.J Professional Corporation. Need accounting assistance, we've got the best in town." I smiled.
"Ok. That's great, but I'm not here for that."
"Do I know you?" Shit. I shouldn't have just asked like that.
"No." She removed my hand from her arm. "I'm afraid not."
From the back of the room I could hear Linda's voice calling me. "Sir! Look, I found the paper!" I took a breath and sighed.
"I'll be right back." From the look in her eyes, I could tell she didn't want me to.
Linda handed me the confirmation paper with a huge grin of pride. I thanked her and she giggled.
"Ethan! I wan't you to meet someone. Come on." Jake grabbed me by surprise and pulled me towards where he wanted me to go. Jake and I have been best friends for the longest time. We started off in grade 3 and now we own a business together.
"Who is it Jake? If it's not someone important than let go off me."
He ignored my comment and brought me to the front of the desk. "Meet my fiancee."
My mouth dropped open in surprise. You got to be kidding me.
"Ethan, do you remember Christina Ricci from Biology? Well this is her. My beautiful Tina." He hugged her and I felt an uneasiness in the pit of my stomach.
The Christina Ricci who lived three blocks away and I would ride my bike past just to catch a glimpse of her through the window. The Christina Ricci that would water her grass and hide her face when ever I purposely walked by. The Christina Ricci which I had a massive crush on. I looked at the both of them and replied blankly, "Oh yeah. Biology. That's where I know you from. Well nice to meet you again after a long time." I extended a hand and she shook it.
"You are Ethan? Oh goodness! We used to live in the same neighborhood until I moved. I remember you. Look how much you've grown. This is amazing, I hardly recognized you." She laughed in this sweet way, that made me turn red.
"Well I'm awfully busy. Congratulations to the both of you though." With that I turned around and walked towards my office. I sat on my chair doing absolutely nothing. I couldn't help but smile to myself whenever I remembered things about the past. Her face kept reappearing in my mind, and I restlessly shifted around the room. This was wrong and I knew it. I couldn't possibly be in love with my best friend's fiancee.
