Beyond Belief
I sat in the dark of my black BMW with tinted windows up. I couldn't forget her. "Christina... why do you come into my life now? Just when business was booming, and my girlfriend.." I paused. Thinking over the facts. I have a girlfriend but I'm in love with someone else. With a sigh I looked out at the city lights. Christmas was almost here, and everything was painted red and green. The office sometimes played Christmas songs and on days that I was happy, there'd be singing. My thoughts shifted to the holidays. I need to get Shaylene that dress she liked on Main Street. It doesn't look at all nice on her. The girl who would look nice in it would be Christina. She was thin, but not too thin, and her skin complexion being a light tint of tan, would match the dress perfectly. I started the car and drove. I thought about what I'd do when I got home. Maybe lay down and watch some T.V. Yes that sounds nice after a long restless day at work. When I got home, I opened the door and peered inside. It was silent except for the shower. I threw off my coat, and lay down on the couch. The shower turned off and I turned the T.V on. After a good 30 minutes, there were footsteps on the stairs; first slow and quietly, than loud and fast. She ran around to the sofa and gasped in surprise.
"Ethan! You have your socks on in the house. It smells really bad." Shaylene jerked my arm up and tried to get me to take my socks off. I grunted. I don't know why she found that funny, but her laughing gave me a gigantic headache.
"Can I help you?" I asked annoyed.
"Yes. How was work?" She smiled.
"Good." I wanted to say really good, but then there would be question.
"I see. Did you notice something different?" She seamed excited and eager at the same time.
I glanced around until my focus was on the diamond necklace that hung from her neck. "Yeah. New necklace?"
"Ethan! Don't you remember? You got it for me last month for our one year and a half-versary." She sounded upset at the fact that I didnt remember.
"Oh yeah."
"Does it look nice?"
"Why are you here, all dressed up and wearing that?" I didn't look at her but at the screen.
"Well because your home, I'm hungry and it's friday night."
"So?"
"I don't know...' She sat down on the love seat, and looked at her hands. She obviously expected me to take her out, but I obviously didn't want to.
"There's leftover pizza in the fridge from yesterday. Go on and help yourself." I smirked. My voice meaner than intended.
"Fine!" She stormed off upstairs.
I shifted in my seat, and began to feel myself getting hungry. I got up and looked in the fridge. There the pizza lay, cold and hard. I heated it, and than sat down by the T.V once again. Devouring the slice, I felt an ache of guilt. I thought about bringing her back down so she could atleast eat with me. But in the end I didn't bring Shaylene back and just hoped the guilt would dissapear somewhere.
I took my clothes off and freshened up. Pulling on a clean pair of boxers, I looked at the bed. Shaylene was sleeping ever so calmly. I could either push her off the bed or go sleep in the guest bedroom. I chose the second option as it would help in making me feel less guitly.
