Right, I'm Wrong

The thought disgusted me. Christina Ricci, the most beautiful woman on this planet, with him?

Jake wasn't ugly, but he was no Ethan lively either.

If I really wanted, I could get the entire female staff population to bow down at my feet. I was completely hot.

I smoldered a dirty look at the two. Flirting like there was no tomorrow.

She twirled a strand of hair around her finger and he watched her playfully.

Other's might call them cute, but all they made me do was want to puke.

I got up from my desk and marched to the instant coffee maker, my eyes still on them. Pouring in a bunch of sugar and stirring until it spilled from the sides, I brought the cup to my lips.

I literally spat the coffee out. It tasted horrible, and on top of that my tongue was burnt.

"Ethan. Man, are you OK? That was some serious hot coffee, and your face didn't look too pleased." Jake ran from whatever nonsense he was busy with to come to my rescue. Oh thanks Jake.

I looked up at him, and at the lady standing beside him. To maintain my status I shrugged off the pain. "It's nothing. I'm good. You don't worry about me Jake." I forced a friendly smile and then murmured under my breath. "you just worry about your fiancée."

"what was that?"

"oh nothing." I patted him on the shoulder. "I'll be in my office."

Christina shifted awkwardly at his side. Then like she read my mind, she blurted out "your not okay Ethan. Get an ice pack or something cause your badly burnt."

Oh Christina if you'd understand that my real pain in the heart.

"Thanks." I replied.

Jake gave me a look of confusion.

I returned it with a shrug.

"Get an ice pack." He laughed. "and put it on your tongue."

I hesitated. "it's funny because?"

"it would be a hell of a show to see you walking around with that on your face."

Christina quietly laughed along at her fiancé's remark.

It truly wasn't that funny. But like the awkward third wheel, I laughed along as well, knowing I had no other option.

"Your coming this Saturday right Ethan?" Christina interrupted, and thank god she actually did.

"uh yeah. That was the deal." I looked at Jake who wrapped a protective arm around Christina.

"It's our treat. Us four are dining at La Donna." Jake smiled.

The four of us... I completely forgot about Shaylene.

After I returned to my office, I noticed that the two were gone. Probably off to lunch, or helping themselves to a private room.

Linda walked in with a bewildered expression. "Sir, I completely forgot to tell you that the manager of AC Depot called and cancelled the meeting."

I placed my face on my palms for several minutes, than returned to look at her. "it's OK. Thank you for telling me."

"Linda blushed and trotted away into the hall, flailing her short black curls every chance she got.

I have to go home, call Mr.Shine's about why he cancelled the meeting, and then find a good enough reason to cancel the double date they had planned for Saturday.
