JaLisa Thomson

June 17th

"So what was it like living in LA?" My aunt asked me as we drove though the streets of New Orleans to her place.

Shrugging, I removed the strands of hair that were flying in my face as the wind blew.

She sighed as we continued driving in silence.

Ever since my parents died last month from a car accident on their way back from their wedding anniversary, I've been a total wreck.

Also because I had to move in with my mom's side of the family that lived all the way in New Orleans leaving the friendships I made while living in LA.

I was slowly staring to accept the fact that they were gone but still everything felt surreal.

Pulling up in front of a small house, she looked over at me with a warm smile.

"Well were hea'." She said unlocking the doors of her car and getting out.

I opened mind and slowly got out, dusting off the back of my dress.

The neighbourhood wasn't quiet at all. There was kids playing across the street and on the side were guys sitting down on the steps of houses.

Shaking my head I closed the door and followed my aunt inside as she carried the last of my suitcase inside.

It wasn't too dark outside but the sun was slowly starting to set.

As soon as I stepped foot inside I was greeted by a little girl and a small little puppy who began barking at me.

She looked about five as she stared at me with a red freeze in her hand.

Just then my aunt returned picking up the puppy who continued to bark loud as ever.

"Who's dat'?" The girl asked with her little New Orleans accent coming out softly.

"Dis' ma' niece, JaLisa." She told her as she nodded, still staring at me as I shifted my attention on my shoes.

My aunt rested the puppy down as he finally stopped barking.

"Hun why dontcha' go back upstairs and play with the puppy." She suggested to her as she nodded running off upstairs with the puppy hot on her trail.

"You have kids?" I asked her as she looked at me surprised that I actually spoke.

"No. She just loves comin' ova' ta' play wit' tha' puppy. She lives next door. Her names Kayla." She explained to me as I nodded, folding my arms.

"Ya' uncle should be home soon wit' tha' food. I hope ya' like Chinese." She smiled as I looked around.

I felt her approach me and place her hand in my shoulder. "I know your still not over the incident but-"

"I don't really feel like taking right now so may I be excused." I cleared my throat as she removed her hand.

"Of course." She nodded running her hand over her arm.

I headed upstairs and went inside the room all the way down the hall where all my stuff where rested inside.

Closing the door, I plopped down on the bed and laid down, looking up at the ceiling.

Taking out my phone I typed in my password and decided to go on Instagram.

About twenty minutes later I heard a few knocks at the door causing me to look over.
