"Kayla c'mon." I called out as I fixed Oreo onto his leash.
A few moments later I heard small footsteps running downstairs as Kayla appeared causing Oreo to start barking.
After helping her into her shoes, I held her hand and opened the door.
New Orleans summer breeze hit me as we steeped out. I made sure to lock the door before heading down the street.
It's been about a month now since I've been staying with my aunt and uncle and honestly I was slowly starting to talk more to them.
Not like before when our conversations only lasted a minute from my simple replies or head nods.
Now when they ask me something or talk we usually talk for quite a long time which is way better.
They haven't really asked about my parents which I was glad because I wasn't really ready to talk about it and they knew also.
Kayla hasn't came around in a while so when she did I immediately offered to watch her.
The last time I had seen her was two weeks ago and that was when me and my aunt were just about to head out.
Waking up the steps of corner store, I debated on if I should keep Oreo outside or bring him in with me.
Not wanting to risk anything bad happening to him while I was inside, I decided on going in with him.
Opening the door, I let Kayla ahead of me as she immediately ran to the candy and frozen treats near the back.
Looking over at the owner, he smiled and waved at me as I did the same.
He was an elderly white guy who I often seen while coming here these few weeks.
"I hope you don't mind I brought my dog in here with me. I didn't want to risk anything bad happening to him." I told him as he smiled down at Oreo who was quite excited.
He only waved me off. "It's fine dear."
I went though an aisle heading to the back where Kayla was as Oreo began walking ahead of me.
As I turned the corner there stood a guy who was looking at the condoms they had out on display.
He looked awfully familiar but I couldn't put a finger on it. That was until he turned around.
"You again." He sucked his teeth as I folded my arms with the leash still in my hands.
This time he wasn't dressed in all black. Instead he had in a on a black sweater with red and white lettering across it and a pair of coloured jeans that hung low around him.
