"JaLisa, c'mon. Get up." I heard my aunt's voice say as my eyes fluttered open, adjusting on her. It looked like she was dressed for work.
"W–what time is it?" I yawed, immediately brining my hand to my mouth.
"Almost 9. It's your first day of school, you don't want ta' be late do you?" She joked, standing up from the side on my bed and walking towards the door.
"No. Just give me five more minutes..." I trailed off about to close my eyes until I heard her laughing.
"Okay. I left you some money for lunch and your bus comes in 15 minutes." She said which made me shoot up quickly.
"I'll see you lata' have fun!" She waved to me before closing back my door.
After showering, getting ready in something simple and eating a quick breakfast which was some cereal, I headed back upstairs to grab my shoes.
While lacing up the other side, Oreo wobbled in.
"You hungry?" I asked him as if he could answer me and speak.
He began to wag his tail causing me to laugh as I stood up.
"I take that as a yes. Cmon boy." I moved past him, down the steps with him hot on my trail.
I opened up the cabinet and grabbed his dog food, bending down to his bowl and pouring some.
He began to walk towards it and start eating as I put the box back inside.
"Alright bye boo." I cooed at him, rubbing his head and going towards the door.
I made sure I had everything, including my bag and key for the door before walking out.
After locking the door, I began to walk down the steps and to where the bus stop was which was across the street at the stop sign.
About ten minutes later the bus arrived and I got on, finding a seat in the back.
While I was walking down the aisle of the bus, I began to receive looks from people. Unpleasant ones too.
I ignored them and continued walking. It felt like I was walking forever and the stares and whispers would never end.
I finally found and empty spot at the very back and slid inside the seat, going over to the window.
I began to go into deep thought until I felt someone sit next to me.
I looked over to surprisingly see August who had his earphones in, looking ahead of nothing in particular.
Was he seriously just going to act like I'm not sitting next to him? He had on shades but for why, I don't know.
I debated on if I should get his attention.
I tapped his shoulder. He looked over at me.
"You could at least acknowledge me you know."
"You seemed like you were mad or sum' so I decided ta' jus' leave you alone."
"Oh." I mumbled. "I wasn't. I was just thinking."
He only nodded, taking out his phone and changing the song he was listening to.
"You listen to SZA too?" I was a bit surprised.
"Yeah. I just started listening ta' her not too long ago. She's dope."
"I love her." I said lowly.
