Chapter 20: The Great Snowball Fight

I watched as snow fell from the sky lightly. Being in the Ice dorms alone was extremely lonely, so I invited Brennen and Denen to come and sleep over for the two weeks. It had been four days since the last day of term and to be honest I missed everyone, especially James and Ella. But I kept on reminding myself that me and Ella were done; forever.
It was the morning of Christmas Eve and Denen and Brennen had just left to get some warmer cloths. Due to being an Ice Elemental I had discovered that coldness didn't effect me as much so I could wear my normal jeans, t-shirt, and sweater.
I walked outside of the dorms and met Aria at the Air dorms. Then we chatted about our capture the flag strategy.
"I say we keep our flag in the Medical Wing." She Suggested. The Medical Wing was a large room that had walls coming out beside either wall and a curtain across the front.
"Sure." I replied.
We met with Denen and Brennen and walked to the cafeteria. Breakfast was muffins with cherry pancakes. I ate hungrily just like everyone else and before everyone left Mrs. Nicole rung the bell taking all our attentions.
"The annual snowball fight will take place five minutes from now. You will be split into teams of two and have five minutes to build a base before you hear a whistle that signified the fight to begin!" Mrs. Nicole explained.

Everyone waited outside watching an Ice and Water Elemental in grad year playing with the fountain. The snow had stopped falling and the sun was just breaking over the mountain that was to the west of the school.
Mrs. Nicole walked out of the doors and explained the rules to us.
"You may use your powers. You may fight. But any serious injury to another player will get you kicked out and banned from capture the flag tomorrow. Once you are hit with a snowball you are out." The principle told all fourteen of us.

We pulled names from a hat and I got a Water girl in second year. Mrs. Nicole started us and we ran of into the forest.
"My name's Michele." She said as we ran through the forest.
"I'm Jaxon." I replied.
Soon we came to a clearing with a cliff to one side of it. We climbed the cliff and decided to make base there.
Michele closed her eyes. Water started climbing upwards till it formed a box with two smaller box's coming off of it from either side. "Jaxon." She asked me. "Drop the temperature by five degrees."
I closed my eyes and imagined Ice. The air around me dropped a few degrees and when I opened my eyes a snow fort was standing in front of us.
I heard a whistle blow and then silence. Michelle and I sat in the fort making snowballs with our powers until we heard voices. Instantly I recognized them as Aira and Brennen.
"What do we do?" I whispered to Michelle.
"Grab a snowball and fight." She answered.
I used my powers to make a shield of ice to protect me and grabbed some snowballs and headed outside.
Michelle and I charged strait for Brennen and Aira. Brennen created a wall of water and then Aira pushed it back towards us. Michelle and I rolled out of the way and threw the snowballs at them. Brennen was hit first but Aira was putting up a fight. She made a strong force of wind blow, blowing our snowballs to dust. Michelle kept on throwing snowballs.
"Stop throwing snowball's!" I ordered to Michelle.
"How do we get around her?" She asked.
"Follow me!" I exclaimed.
I ran to the edge of the cliff. We could survive this fall if we landed in the snow right.
"Are you insane!?" Asked Michelle.
"Yeah!" I answered and I jumped.
The cold air blew up in my face and then with a 'thump' I hit the ground. Michelle followed back screaming her head off.
"You can't out run me Jaxon!" Aira called.
She flew off the cliff and glided down onto the ground. Aira blew all the snow in the area towards us. Quickly I closed my eyes and created an Ice wall blocking the incoming snow.
"What was this supposed to accomplish?" Michelle asked.
"I didn't think she would follow us." I explained "We could've gone around and surprised her."
"Well now we're trapped." Michelle glared.
I closed my eyes and imagined the ice wall exploding forward. I opened my eye's to the wall explode open sending snow fly everywhere. Aira flew back in the air and landed in the snow. I ran over to her and picked up some snow.
"I win." I smiled.
Aira rolled her eyes and then I dropped the ball of snow on her face. Brennen (who had been spectating the whole time) and Aira ran off back to the school leaving Michelle and I alone. With our base totally destroyed we left our area in search of more people.

Michelle and I walked for about five minutes before we saw then next group. It was Denen and the Water senior. They were in a clearing surrounded by trees. In the middle of the clearing stood a large pile of snow with walls around it.
"What do we do?" Michelle asked.
"How about we stay here and throw." I suggested.
"Sure." She replied.
I closed my eyes and created a wall of ice me and Michelle could easily use to defend ourselves and throw over. Grabbing some snow, Michelle and I both threw snowballs at the other team.
Denen and the Water kid turned around and started throwing snowballs at us as well.
"I've had enough of this." Michelle grunted. "I'm going in."
"Michele no!" I called after her, but it was to late.
Michelle ran towards the other teams base. She ducked as a Denen threw a snowball at her. Michelle threw a snowball towards Denen. The snowball hit him on the shoulder and he backed away from the battle. The water boy threw a snowball towards her; the snowball hit her in the face sending her sprawling into the snow. I forced the wall of ice down and picked up some snow and packed it into a snowball. Dodging another snowball from the Water boy, I threw a snowball at him. It spiraled towards him and hit I'm in the stomach. Michelle, Denen, and the Water boy all left.
I started jogging of in the opposite direction but a snowball intercepted me. Another snowball flew towards me and I dodged it. Quickly, I ran to Denen and the Water boys old base. I looked around. Behind two trees were to older kids, a girl with red hair in first year, and an older boy with black hair. I grabbed a  snowball and threw it at them. I missed by about an inch. The boy ran towards me throwing snowballs. I pushed my hand outwards and a ray of ice hit him in the chest blowing him backwards. Dodging another snowball, I moved from my base with a snowball in my hand, I threw it at the girl. She ducked and threw a ball at me. The snowball seamed to move ten times faster then it should, and I seemed to move ten times slower. The snowball hit me in the leg; I was out.

After everyone rejoined at the front of the school Mrs. Nicole declared the winners. "In first place we have Maddy and Karmic, in second place we have Jaxon and Michelle, and in third place we have Denen and Quinn. Some hot chocolate is in the lobby, be here at six o' clock tonight for the feast." And with that she walked off into the school.

Aira, Denen, Brennen, and I all sat by the fire place in the r-room (relaxing room), it had two burgundy couches beside each other, with a chair on each side. In front sat a coffee table and a fireplace behind it. On the right side of the r-room were stairs to the second floor, and the walls were decorated with paintings and book shelves.
"I don't mean to be noisy or anything, but why are you guys staying here?" Asked Brennen.
Did I want to tell them? I mean, these people were practically family so I guess I could trust them.
"My parents are in Paris on a vacation." I said sadly.
"I... I..." And Aira ran off away from us.

I spent several minutes trying to find Aira before I found her i sitting at the top of the cliff that overlooked the lake. I sat down beside her.
"What is it?" I asked her.
"M-m my family is poor." She sobbed.
My heart sunk, no one like Aira deserved to be poor, no one, even the worse people in the world deserved it.
"Do you want to talk about it?" I asked her, she shook her head "no".
I gave her a hug and we spent the next thirty minutes talking.
