The Pair Project ch. 2

Chapter 2: The Pair Project

Ten minutes until the next class period.

Avril had no idea that in those ten minutes, something that could very well change her school life would happen.

She sat in Mrs. Moria's classroom filling in questions on the selected play, 'Romeo and Juliet'. She wasn't even nearly finished when the slightly plump teacher interrupted the silence.

"Okay class, I have a very special assignment for you all. Since we are doing this wonderful play, I have decided to give you all a project".

The class groaned in response.

"Now now, you're not going to do it alone. I've already set up the partners. You will all create a poster with the main events from this play, along with information of William Shakespeare. Also you will present to the class your reenactment of any scene from this play. Any questions?" she smiled at the class as if it was strained.

One girl with glasses in the front of the class raised her hand. "When is this due?"

"I'm three weeks".

The class groaned even louder this time.

"Now if there's no more questions I'll read out the partners", Mrs. Moria looked at her sheet of paper.

"Alice and Clyde.

Madisson and Tristen..."

Avril lowered her head to the desk. She honestly could not believe that this woman was giving her a school project already. Was she out to ruin everybody's lives?

"Avril and Envy".

Then again maybe not.

Avril's head instantly shot up from her desk. Was she dreaming? Did Mrs. Moria really call her name with Envy's.

"What?" she barely whispered.

The teacher continued to call names. Avril turned her head to look at her new partner and saw that he was already looking at her. She gasped and quickly turned around to avoid his gaze.

Avril already knew that this project was going to be so bittersweet.

"And you got paired with him? OMG!"

Avril was smiling from ear to ear as she walked towards the school's double doors with Winry and the Elric brothers.

Edward hoisted his backpack higher. "Good for you, Avril".

"I'm still just surprised that she paired us up of all people".

Winry patted Avril on the back. "Well don't think about it too much. Just be happy that he's your partner".

The group of friends continued their chatter as they opened the door and walked outside to greet the open air. There Avril saw her sister waiting for her at the parking lot.

"There's Chloe", Avril turned to her friends. "I gotta go guys. Bye!"

Avril ran ahead to the dark blue Toyota, her friends waving at her back. She jumped into the car just as Chloe turned the ignition.

"Hey girly, how's school?" Chloe backed out of the parking lot.

"It was... interesting", Avril replied holding back a smile.

Through her peripheral vision, Chloe saw Avril trying to suppress a smile. The older sibling definitely was interested now.

"Oh really? Tell me more".

Avril blushed slightly and turned her head away.

"It's nothing really. I just got paired in a project with this guy that I... like".
