The Days of August

Chapter 14

      Claire ran out of her bedroom and screamed at the first person she saw. "SAMMY GET IN YOUR CAR, NOW!"
Sammy was in shock but did as Claire told her. They both rushed outside into the car.
      Tears where streaming down Claire's face.
      Sammy started to pull out of the driveway, "Where are we going?"
       Claire was breathing heavily, "Hospital."
       Sammy was speeding, trying to get Claire to her destination as fast as possible.
       Sammy took a deep breath, "May I ask why we are heading to the hospital?"
       Claire wiped her tears, "August, he was in a wreck."
       Finally they had reached the hospital, they headed to the emergency room.
      Claire rushed in and immediately saw Laura, Bella and Hayley.
Bella and Claire ran towards each other and hugged, Bella had been seriously crying, she looked like a mess.
      Claire pulled away, "What's going on?"
     Bella took a deep breath and wiped away her tears, "We don't know anything yet."
      Claire sighed, "I'm terrified."
      Bella hugged her again, "Me too."
      They walked back over to Laura and Hayley.
      Laura tried to change the subject, "So who is this with you Claire?"
      Sammy smiled, "I'm Sammy, Claire's cousin."
      Laura wiped her tears, "Nice to meet you Sammy."
       A nurse came out of the room, coming to give them information.
       "I'm so sorry, but the only choice we have is to amputate his left leg."
       The whole family started to cry just a little bit harder.
       Laura tried to stay strong, "Is August going to be okay?"
      The nurse looked down, "Our team is doing the best they possibly can."  

      Hours went by of setting in the waiting room. Claire became more and more worried by the minute.
     Bella was probably taking it the worst, even though everyone looked like they haven't slept in days.
     Laura spoke, "Claire, honey, you know he loves you more than anything right?"
     "Yes I know, I feel the same way."
     "Good."
     Claire started the cry hard, "It's all my fault this happened!"
     Laura tried to calm her down, "Claire it's not your fault."
     "Yes it is, if I would have let him go a little sooner or even let him stay a little longer this would have never happened!"
      Laura shushed Claire, "Claire, don't blame yourself, it's not your fault, the only person to blame is the driver that hit him."
      Callie walked into the waiting room and sat down beside Claire, "Hey guys, I just thought you may need some coffee." Callie gave a cup to everyone.
     Laura smiled, "Thank you Callie."
     Callie smiled, "Your welcome, when Sammy came home she told me so I figured I would come up here with you guys."
     They sat and waited for about another hour, a nurse walked up to them.
     "The family can come see August, friends will have to come see him tomorrow."
     Claire became stiff, she needed to see August today.
      Laura looked back at Claire, she quickly made a plan.
       "I'm August's fiancé." Claire lied, but they believed her.
        Laura, Bella and Claire walked back to where the nurse told them August was, only one person was allowed to see him at a time.
       Laura went first, as Bella and Claire waited for their turn.
       After a couple minutes Laura walked out, "Claire, would you like to see him next?"
       Claire smiled, "Bella, you can go next if you want."
       Bella sighed, "Claire go, you are his fiancé."
       Claire grinned and got up and walked into the room August was in.
       The sight of August made Claire feel sick to her stomach, his one leg was in a gigantic cast, while the other one was no longer present.
      She sat down beside him on a little stole. She brushed back his blood streaked hair, and whispered, "Guess what August, we have now officially been dating for over a year, it's 6:00 a.m."
     "You know your the love of my life, August."
     "I love you so much."
     August's eyes where closed, the doctor said he was still unconscious, but Claire felt like August could still hear her.
     "You mean everything to me, I want to be with you for the rest of my life, I love you so much August Rally."
      "Well I should probably go, your sister most likely wants to talk to you now, I love you August, thanks for being strong."
       Claire walked out of the room and Bella walked in.
       Laura patted Claire's shoulder, "Go home Claire, get some rest."
       Claire smiled, "Laura, I'm not going anywhere."
