The Days of August

Chapter 6

Claire and Callie had now been silently jogging in the woods for about 20 minutes.
Callie finally spoke, "So where are we going."
Claire hesitantly answered, "A friend of mines."
"Are we going to August's place?" Callie seemed overly excited.
Claire figured Callie would guess that. "Yes."
"Does he know we're coming?"
"No, he don't."
Claire and Callie started to walk, they never were really good runners.
"I'm excited!" Callie blurted out.
"Would you stop." Claire could feel herself getting aggravated, she didn't know what had made her so angry.
"Sorry, it's just I've never really rebelled before." Callie's voice sounded truly apologetic.
Claire changed the subject, "So what did father say or do that made you so angry?"
"I don't know, he is just not really anything to me anymore."
"Wow, I think that's a little to harsh."
"I don't care."
"Okay, well I think we are almost to are destination."
They walked into August's driveway, Claire leading the way.
Claire knocked on the door, while Callie played with her fingers.
Bella, August's little sister,answered the door. "Hey Claire."
"Hey, is August here?"
"No he had hockey practice, but please come in, its just me and my friend Hayley."
"Okay, this is my sister Callie."
Callie spoke, "Hello, ummm what's your name?"
"My name is Bella." Bella motioned towards her friend, "And this is Hayley." Claire didn't even notice Hayley had entered the room until now.
"So when will August be home?" Claire asked.
"About an hour." Hayley answered for Bella.
Claire couldn't help but think that that Hayley looked like her and Callie. She had the same face structure and eyes as they had.
"Let's go set in the living room." Bella said with a huge smile on her face.
"So how old are you guys?" Callie asked Bella and Hayley.
"Thirteen." They both said at the same time.
Bella gained a mischievous look, "So are you and August like a thing now?" She said towards Claire.
Claire laughed, "Well I'm kinda already taken by someone else."
Bella and Hayley looked at each other and laughed. Bella spoke, "He has a massive crush on you, and" Hayley interrupted her, "So if you have a boyfriend why are you here?"
     Claire was shocked by Hayley's question but explained, "Well Callie and I had some family issues and we would like to know if we could maybe stay here tonight?"
The girls all laughed together, Bella spoke,"My mom would let you stay with us, she loves you!"
Callie's smilie was really wide, "That's awesome!" She shouted.

About an hour later August and his mom open the door.
"Well, hello." Said their mom obviously surprised to see Claire and Callie.
Claire spoke up, "Laura do you think perhaps that my sister Callie and I could stay the night with Bella?"
Laura sighed, "I guess you girls can, I don't mind." Laura turned to August,"But you will leave them alone, and not go in Bella's room at all."
August had a big smile on his face, he was glad to see Claire, "Of course mom, but may I have permission to speak with Claire really quick?"
Laura sighed again, "I guess, but be quick."
August brung Claire into his bedroom, "What are you guys doing here?" He asked in a hushed tone.
Claire walked up closer to August, "We had some family issues and we needed some place to stay."
"So your parents don't know your here?" August asked giving a skeptical look.
"No." Claire felt like she was going to cry, but she managed to hold it in.
August could see the pain in Claire's expression, " Hey, if you ever need somewhere to stay you can come here, it's no problem." He held his hand on Claire's shoulder.
Claire loved that August was so understanding and caring, it made her feel less scared about her actions.
Claire gave August a hug, "Ummm I better get back in Bella's room so your mom won't get mad at you."
"Okay, I'll see you tomorrow morning."
"Okay."

After gossiping with Callie, Bella and Hayley for about an hour Claire was finally ready to go to sleep. "Goodnight guys."
Callie smacked Claire with a pillow, "Your going to sleep already?"
"Yes." Claire said with attitude.
Bella giggled, "Okay goodnight."
Claire grabbed her pillow and blanket and was out in a flash.
