It is not true that in the darkness of the world, you will always find a beacon of light. You have to become your own beacon of light sometimes, to emerge from your own darkness.

I walked down the corridors while scrolling through my emails on my phone when I almost bumped into someone. I stopped just in time and changed my path without looking up.

"Someone is very busy," I heard a voice bitch before I could go any further. Really God?! You had to do this to me early in the morning? Why?!

I looked up to see Summer, standing in front of me with her hands on her hips. She was wearing a tight black plain top paired with a peach skirt and black heels. Needless to say she looked hot. Not that she ever looked bad with her black silky locks, eccentric blue eyes and a heart shaped face. But today she looked extra hot and why shouldn't she.

"Happy birthday, babe," I say smiling widely and moving forward to engulf her in a big hug.

"Oh! So you remembered it was my birthday. I am blessed," she says sarcastically, without responding to my hug. She can be a bitch sometimes. One thing I didn't want to deal with in the morning. But I did call this upon myself so I have to bear this now. Oh dear Lord!

"I am sorry I didn't wish you at night as you know yesterday was very hectic for me. But you do know that I didn't forget about your birthday. How can I? Hug me back please so I know you have forgiven me." I said, extending the 'e' of please.

She wrapped her slender arms around me after a moment of contemplation and muttered a weak, "I am still angry at you."

I smiled as I pulled away," I will do anything to make you forgive me." I said while giving her the best puppy dog face I could muster. Not that it would look cute. Deranged, probably. But not cute.

"Come to my party tonight," she said evilly. Nice move. She knew I hated parties with a passion and so she used this opportunity to make me come. Not that I would have missed her party, especially this party. Since it was her birthday and all.

"I wouldn't miss it for the world." She raised her eyebrows at that as if to say ,"yeah right!" and rolled her eyes at me when I smiled cheekily at her.

"I highly doubt it."

After our conversation in the hallway we parted ways to go to our lectures. My last lecture would finish at 4 whereas Summer's last lecture was at 2 so she went home as she had to prepare for the party. After all my lectures were done for the day, I had to go to her house directly to help her prepare and that was what I was doing. Walking towards her house. Or more like a mansion. You see Summer is very rich and the size of her house shows that completely. Unlike me, who lives in some dump of an apartment in the bad part of town, barely able to make ends meet. Summer offered to me to come live with her since her house was pretty big but I did not want to live with her. I didn't like favours from anyone even from my best friend.

I reached her house after walking for fifteen minutes since her house wasn't really that far from the campus. James, her butler, opened the door for me and ushered me inside. I looked around to see servants running around preparing for the party. Her parents weren't home as they had gone on some trip. They were coming back next week and so Summer was able to host the party. Otherwise, the party would have been at Damon's house and I wouldn't be attending it. I am surprised to see the servants still in the house preparing for the party. I mean what if they tell her parents that she was throwing a party.

I shrug and directly walk up to her room. She must have told them they were going to have a function for her rich friends or something and would give them an off before the party. I look around to see the expensive pieces of decoration still lying around. So probably told them something else. We will have to remove those articles before the party and put them in a safe place to prevent drunk people from breaking them.
