It was a cold and foggy morning. My mother woke me up and said "Come on Megan. It's time to get up. You don't want to be late for the Annual Horse Auction, don't you? Noooo." I replied back to her in a groggy voice. So under her will I got up and went downstairs for breakfast. We had eggs and toast."Mmmmmm. Real filling mum. I might be hungry again in like five minutes. Hey,you should at least be thankful that you have food on your table. Not a lot of people do in other countries!" I just looked away and rolled my eyes at moms glorious response. Yes maybe she was right but she doesn't need to remind me. It's the weekend. Not school weekend. Anyways. After breakfast I went upstairs and got dressed then grabbed my phone and headphones and ran to the car. It was a really long drive. About six hours but it was all worth it for what we were doing this for. After a long drive we came to this really old and crappy looking building. There were horses and pens on either side of the building. There was stallions, young stallions to mares and even foals. Me and my mom walked in while they checked our bags. So strict! So anyways after we got our bags checked we found a really good seat in the front row. We waited about 5 minutes until they finally let out the first horse. The horse was a bay mare with no markings. She was in good health but very frightened. There was a man with a whip in the coral with her and whenever she went near him he would whip at her. It took about ten minutes until someone finally bought her. It was a young girl who looked friendly and nice. I knew that she was going to be bringing this young mare to a good home. There were many horses that day but none of them we were interested into saving. They were all in good health and young. They showed no signs of neglect at all. But that wasn't until a young Appaloosa stallion came through the gates. He was very skinny and abused. He was scared and almost nearly fell down while turning in the coral. Nobody wanted him. He was mean, ferocious, and had a bad temper. My mom decided to take him in. She beted only $100 and that was it! No one beted after my mom. The stallion was whipped out of the coral and then tagged to let other people know that he was a bought horse. Me and my mom gave the man his money then they loaded him into our trailer for us. They put force into it. They tugged and pulled on his face and they also used a piece of barbed wire!"That's it! I've had enough!" I grabbed the lead rope out of the man's hand then softly coaxed the stallion into the trailer. The men were amazed by my performance."How did you do that?! It's called being nice." The men stood there in ashame as I walked over to the side of the truck and hopped in. The whole way home the stallion kicked and thrashed around in the trailer. He had obviously had some bad experiences with either humans, trailers or both. once we got home I stepped out of the truck and walked over to the the trailer and out of the blue the stallion launched at me through the trailer bars. I jumped back and fell to the ground in shock. That stallion was going to need a lot of training. I gave him a few days to settle in and get used to his surroundings. Then one day I decided to see if he could remember that I was the one that helped him onto that trailer and saved him from those men beating him onto out trailer. I walked into the coral. He did remember me! The second I walked into the coral he trotted right up to me! I was so glad that he was remembering that I was the one that is trying to help him. I gave him an apple and a sugar cube and then left to go do my barn chores. After I did my barn chores as usual I walked back to the house to get something to eat. As I walked back to the house I started to hear a ruckus in the barn. One of the horses was kicking at their stall door. I ran back as fast as I could and as I figured it was the apaloosa stallion. I unlocked the stall door and put my hands a fourth to tell him that it was ok. he slowly calmed down and then walked towards me a little. I still didn't have a name for the bay apaloosa stallion. I walked into the house and made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and then sat down at the computer. I looked up so many things trying to find the right name for the stallion. Then I finally came up with one. Belvito! It was perfect! I kept saying it over and over again."Belvito,Belvito,Belvito. I love it!" I was so happy that I ran outside and and into the stables to see Belvito and tell him that he had a new name! "Hey boy. I have a new name for you! it's Belvito!" He whinned and bobbed his head up and down. Every day got more and more used to his new name. It was no longer Devil or Stupid. It was Belvito. A name that I came up with on my own. As the months went by he started to look better and better every day. I was so happy that he was mine. A horse of my own that I saw Belvito,I touched Belvito, and I saved Belvito. I knew that very day would be an adventure for the both of us. We would go through ups and downs together. And we will always be next to each other until the end has come.
