One peaceful day I went to the ocean to cool off from the hot summers heat. I listened to the waves and the seagulls overhead. I then started to hear a horses hoofbeats. I listened as they got louder and louder and as the horse got closer. I sat up when it was really loud. As I sat up slowly I looked around. There was no horse anywhere to be seen. I was really confused. I could have sworn that I heard a horses hoofbeats over the waves and seagulls. I looked around and then looked behind me. Out of nowhere once I looked behind me this big black horse reared up causing me to move back rapidly while still sitting. My vision got blurry because it happened so fast so I couldn't tell what kind of horse that he was. He snorted heavily and pawed the air like a savage beast. His whinny sounded like a devils laugh. He fed off the souls of those who were scared of a devil like himself. I sat there with no words to say. My heart was beating really fast because I was really afraid that he was going to run over me or something. Then after a few minutes of this scary encounter he turned around and galloped off over a sand dune. Even though this mystery stallion scared my soul out of me I decided to follow him. I walked up and over the sand dune following the hoofprints. I walked for what seemed quite a long time when I finally came upon a big field that was filled with long and yellow swaying grass. I looked around for a few seconds then walked down the hill. The view was amazing. I wished that I could have just layed there for hours on end but I wasn't there to do that. I was there look for the mystery beach stallion. As I traveled further into this big lush field I started to hear things. I was hearing horses whinning, snorts, and horses running back and forth. I had no idea where these noises were coming from though. I walked a few steps more and found the source. I walked into a big lush green field where there were horses everywhere! I looked around for the black stallion that I had run into earlier. Then in the middle of the herd a big black horse reared up. It was him! Now that I had a more clearer vision I could tell that he was a beautiful Fresian. What was a wild herd doing in the middle of a place like this though? I was very curious to get a closer look at this large herd of horses. I walked a little closer to see how many horses there really were. But as I did this the stallion came surging at me with a huge force inside of him. He stopped right in front of me and reared up. The whites of his eyes didn't scare me at all. As soon as he could see that his threats were to no effect on me he stopped. I slowly started to walk towards him to see if he would run away or stay put. He stayed right where he was and didn't move a muscle. As I got only few inches in front of him he still didn't flinch. I put my hand upon his face and then to my amazement he took a few steps towards me. Why was this stallion trying scare me off but allow me to come near him and touch him? It didn't make any sense to me. It just didn't add up. I stayed there for a while and bonded with the stallion. I thought that maybe he was trying to scare me was because he was afraid or maybe he was just trying to warn me. I had no idea. But because of his sweet personality once you come in contact with him I decided to name him Maliki. It just seemed to suit him well. After a few hours we were seeming to bond well. After you get to know Maliki he doesn't seem like the beast that I thought that he would be. At some point in the day I met Maliki's lead mare. She was a beautiful Fresian like he was just of a different color. She was a gorgous appaloosa Fresian! i didn't even know that they existed! I decided to name here Mariah's Boon and Mariah for short. The two had a colt that was a black blanket appaloosa Fresian. I decided to name him Zesty. There were too many horses in the herd so I just named the horses the stood out the most because of their personalities. There was this one horse that was a dark brown stallion with a flaxen mane and tail and four socks on his legs. He always seemed to be mean and angry and always wanted to be left alone. He didn't really go near the herd much either. I decided to name him Soul-leks which means "The angry one". He just wanted to be left alone. I decided to slowly walk up to him and see if he wouldn't run away. Once I got within four feet of him he came charging at me making me fall backwards. Then out of nowhere Maliki jumped in front of me forcing Soul-leks to moved back. The two stallions got into a fight. Maliki was always going for his legs so that he could pull him down and show him who's boss. And as soon as that happened Soul-leks knew that he would have no chance against his leader. Maliki then came over to me to make sure that I was ok. I tried to move everything around but when I moved my left wrist this pain came from it that shot through my whole body."Ow ow!" I started to cry because I knew then that I had broken my wrist. It hurt so bad! Maliki gave me a small shove on the shoulder and then nickered softly at me telling me to get up. He put his neck right next to my arm so that I could use it as a leverage. When I went home I just told my mom that I fell off my bike. She took me to the hospital and they took x-rays then put a cast onto my arm. The next day I went back to see the horses. When Maliki saw my cast he was very curious and was wondering what this pink object was on my arm. I told him that it was a cast to keep my arm from moving so that my broken bone could heal. He seemed to understand and then stopped sniffing it. I noticed a difference in the herd that day. I looked around to see if all of the horses were there. I then noticed that I  didn't see Soul-leks anywhere! He had gone missing! He was a very young horse so I was a little bit worried. I walked up to Maliki and I could even tell in his eyes that he looked sad and scared just as much as I was. I asked him"Is it Soul-leks boy?" He nodded his head a little as if he was saying yes. i don't know if he was going to be ok. Even though Soul-leks could be a really big jerk sometimes doesn't mean that none of us care about him. I went home a few minutes later just so I could give Maliki a while to breath. I finally told my mom about the wild herd of horses that I've been seeing. She was a little mad but when I told her about the disappearance of Soul-leks one of the young stallions she had that look on her face again where she actually cared even though she was a little mad. She then walked away into the living room. That night after supper it wasn't too close to the point where it was dark outside. I asked mom if I could go down to the beach."Its very late but I guess so. Just make sure that you bring a flashlight with you just in case. Ok thanks mom." I went into my closet and grabbed my pink and blue flashlight that I got for my 8th birthday. I took the same route and then made it to the herd. I saw Maliki standing a little further away from the herd than usual. He seemed surprised to see me here this late and whinnied at me then trotted over. He was really happy to see me. I gave a good pat on the neck and then gave him a apple that I took from the house. He then started to walk over to a small spot of dirt and stopped right in front of it. I walked over next to him and then crouched down. Hoofprints."Nice job Maliki! I think the you have just found the first clue to finding Soul-leks!" He then walked over to a really big rock. I knew what he was trying to do. He wanted me to get up onto the rock and then his back. So I did. He then started to walk off and we went in search of Soul-leks. A few minutes later we came upon him. He was lying down in a pool of blood. I quickly jumped off Maliki and ran over to Soul-leks"Oh no! I hope that he isn't hurt too bad!" Who was I kidding. He was lying in a pool of blood! Maliki bowed down so that I could get onto him so I then jumped back onto Maliki and made him go to a full gallop to my house. I said to my mom out of breath that I found Soul-leks but he was badly hurt and lying in a pool of blood. I didn't know what had happened but he needed immediate attention. My mom quickly tacked up one of our horses then followed me and Maliki to where we found Soul-leks. He was still in the same spot but barely alive. My mom told me that it was a cougar attack. He squealed in pain and agony as he tried to get up. I felt so bad for him. My mom brought her little medical kit and sat down next to him. She put a few bandages here and there. Now that she had a cleaned Soul-leks's wounds he didn't look as bad as he was. She threw a small rope around his neck. She clicked and pleaded for him to get up. Over an hour went by and then finally after many tries he finally stood up. Me and my mom walked him back to the barn. She put him into a stall where he could rest and gave him some food. Maliki stood there wondering if he would be ok." He will be okay if he could stand up. I'm sure he will be fine Maliki." He still seem a little bit worried about him. I mean I would understand why because he was one of the horses from his herd. Any stallion would be worried. Me and my mom slept outside of Soul-leks's stall, waiting for him to recover. The next morning he seemed a lot better. I took Maliki back out to his herd along with Soul-leks. As soon as Soul-leks was off of his leadrope he bolted. I decide to keep Maliki at the barn for a few days to figure out his age. When the vet came she told me that he was about 10 or 11 years old. He was pretty old for a wild horse. She told me not to expect him to live much longer though. Wild horses don't get all of the nutrients that they need and because of this they don't live as long as a horse that lives on a farm. I took her advice well. A few years went by and he still stood by my side. But then one day, Maliki disappeared. I then knew that he must have passed on that night.  I was devastated. Me and Maliki were friends for so many years. I went home and told mom. She felt really bad for me. Now what are we going to do about the herd. they have no stallion. We decide to round them up and take them in ourselves. We had plenty of space in the pastures and many empty stalls. Once they were rounded up we counted to make sure that everyone was here including Mariah,Soul-leks,Mariah's colt Zesty and all of the others."Don't forget about....." then she stopped."About who? What?" Then I remembered. She was talking about Maliki but she just forgot about the talk on what happened to him. I forgave her. It is now a few years later and I believe that Maliki still roams the lush green fields in search of his herd and his loved one. I am sure that someday he will find his herd in my back yard safe and sound. He will always be in my heart as family,a friend, foe, and a part of my life.

R.I.P MALIKI,YOU WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART.(this didn't actually happen.F.Y.I)
