Rules of this exercise: Write a paragraph about your future, using yourself as the main character. Start wherever you want in your future, from next school year to when you're retired. This is just about where you think your future is heading RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT. This is an exercise that I created with inspiration from a friend. I'm going to start with signing up for college. Here we go!

I inhaled the fresh, musty air of the large school. Eagerness chilled my bones. It has taken a ton of work for this moment to happen, and I wasn't about to waste it. The small child in me urged me to go exploring. I excitedly wandered around the lobby, pausing to admire a series of photo frames of famous writers that had previously graduated from Wesleyan University. "I'm going to join them soon," I breathed in awe, determined to make my words truth. "May I help you?" the question took me by surprise. It originated from the secretary, perched behind a desk in the center of the room. "Um... yes," I nervously gripped my scholarship papers before I gingerly placed it on the desk. The secretary carefully examined the papers. "Oh! So, YOU are the infamous, Texas girl who applied for every scholarship available for the English department of Wesleyan!" the secretary let out a small laugh, "Glad to finally meet you! I loved your stories!" I took a little step back in surprise. "You... you read my entries?" I bellowed nervously, "I thought only the official judges were allowed to read entries." The secretary laughed, not bothered by my nervousness. "Well, you're looking at an official judge," she smiled. I shrunk back in embarrassment. "Don't worry about it. I'll go register you into the system. Feel free to continue exploring," the secretary walked into another room, leaving me to my own devices. I pulled out my phone and took a picture of myself in front of a Wesleyan sign. As soon as I approved the picture, I texted it to my friends with the caption, "I finally made it!" Immediately, I received replies. "You go, girl!" Brittany sent. "Text me everyday for the next four years!" Kaitlyn winked. "Work hard, study hard, and have fun!!" Hannah advised. "Yay!!!" Mackenzie, Elaina, and Brianna cheered. "Told you we'd stay in touch! Have fun! Intelligence is important!" Matthew referred to an earlier conversation in high school. This is it! This is college! I'm going to change the world someday!
