Cautious

"I can't believe that you just let her go like that."  Cole says with a small shake of his head as we stand in the school parking lot near our vehicles.

"Me either if I'm being honest." I reply with a huff as I hang my head.

Just moments before I had to say goodbye to my mate because she needed to go see her aunt and I have to be at my alpha training soon. So there really is no way that I would be able to spend more time with her this afternoon. Trust me, Koda and I hate not having her in our sight after just finding her today, but some things just have to be done even if you don't enjoy the decision, you have to do what's right.

"Come on you big sap, you can see her tomorrow but we need to get to training before your father has our asses." Cole says trying to kick me in gear so that we don't have to do too much extra at training when we get back home.

"You're right lets go, we have a busy night." I say finally making my way to the driver's side of my car.

With a final wave at Cole I throw my bag into the passenger seat of my car and settle into the drivers seat. I turn the key in the ignition and the Mustang roars to life. I take off out of the school parking lot and instantly my mind is filled with thoughts and images of Lily. Her beautiful piercing green eyes cloud my mind as I imagine her soft smile and her happy little giggles that she tries to hide.  Images of her soft chocolate hair and cute blush rush to my head and I can feel myself smiling. I can still smell the faint scent of wild flowers that are left on my clothes. Because of our close proximity throughout the school day her scent lingers heavily on my clothes. I can't stop thinking about every little adorable detail that Lily possesses because her entire being is just so innocent and caring.

The urge to run to my mate's side at this very moment is undeniably strong but I don't give into it. Koda whines but I know she understands that just because we found Lily doesn't mean that we can throw away all of our responsibilities as the future alpha.

Before I even realize it I've already pulled up in my driveway. I grab my bag and run in the front door of my house and then taking the stairs two at a time I make my way to my room. In a hurry I just throw everything to floor with a loud thud before ripping off my t-shirt and pants to switch into a sports bra and a pair of athletic shorts, my usual attire for a training session. With a quick glance at my clock I know that if I don't hurry I'm going to be late.

Having no time to use the stairs I throw open my bedroom window and jump as far as I can to the ground below me. I roll so that I don't injure myself from the fall and take off running through the woods to the training field as soon as I plant my feet on the ground once more.

As I plow my way down the path and into the center of the field, I don't get time to admire the forest like I usually do. Normally I take my time walking through the forest but I have to hurry today. But never the less the calm of the forest still slips over me to some extent.

As I near the clearing I can smell my dad and Cole nearby so I know that they are waiting for me. Oh no, I hope my dad isn't too suspicious about what caused us to be late. I want to tell him about Lily, I really do, it's just I want to tell him and mom all at once so I want to wait until dinner tonight.

When I take the last long stride out of the trees and into the clearing I see my father waiting with his arms crossed as Cole stands nearby. My father doesn't look mad, as I'm not late, he just looks slightly confused as to why I wasn't here as early as normal. His grey eyes seem to stare through me as I approach him.

"I see you are cutting it close today." my father chuckles softly as I sprint up to him before coming to an abrupt stop just a few feet from him.

"Yeah I just figured that I would keep everyone on their toes." I joke with him seeing that he is in a good mood today.
