Prologue

Annie woke up in middle of the night to screams coming from downstairs and her cat Midnight hissing like crazy. Suddenly she heard footsteps heading her why and grabs midnight and hides under her bed. Just as she got under the bed her door banged open and she saw pink slippers and suddenly hears her Mum whisper "Annie, where are you?" whilst opening the window.

"Mummy?" she asks quietly and her bends down grabs her from under the bed. Midnight followed and jumped out of the open window that her Mum had opened in her search.

"It is ok sweetheart" her Mum says hugging her tightly. "Remember the game were we climb out the window and hide from Daddy?" her Mum asks and Annie nodded her head. "Ok, will we are going to play it" her Mum said putting on her jacket. Then suddenly the screaming stopped downstairs and her Mum looked at the door quickly. Then she carried her daughter to the window and got her to start climbing down the vine that goes up the side of the house next to her window. "Go, be quiet, run and don't look back that's an order" her mother said sternly both Annie could protest.

Slamming the window shut, her Mum went to the night and got out a hidden knife and turned looking at the door waiting. Then the slams open with a bang, nearly coming off its hinges. There stood a tall dark figure with blood red eyes. "Where is she?" the figure asked in a deep male voice. The Mum was shaking standing in front of her daughters cupboard, hoping she got away safely. The man walked towards her slowly. "Tell me where she is and I won't kill you" he said. Then the Mother throw herself at him knife in hand aiming for his heart. However, he snapped her neck and walked towards the cupboard. He stops suddenly hearing hurried footsteps outside in the snow, along with a frantic beating heart.

Annie did as she was told and didn't look back. When suddenly she was pushed to the ground. She turns and sees a dark figure covered in blood and red eyes staring down at her. "Come with me and I won't kill you like I killed your parents". She started to cry backing away from him, "I gave you a choice and you choose wrong". He said going for her neck when suddenly a grey blur attacked his eyes blinding him.

"Midnight, no!" Annie screamed and the dark figure throw the cat at a nearby tree, where it died on impact. Annie was crying and ran to her only friend, not knowing that she was dead.

"That thing maybe blinded me, but I can still hear you" the said turning around to face the sound of her sobs. When suddenly his head came off.

"You are a disgrace to us vampires" said an other tall dark figure this one with amber eyes. Next to him blonde haired woman, who also had amber gold eyes. They stood looking at the crying girl and then the man looked at the woman and saw the love in her eyes. He knew that they had to protect her and so walked towards her slowly, with his hands up. "Hi, little are you okay? Where are your parents?" he asked.

Annie looked up at the two new figures and then pointed to the dead and said "he killed them and my cat" with tears rolling down her cheeks. The figure held out his hand and she took it, not knowing why. But felt that she could trust these two strangers, knowing that she was safe at last.

"I'm Emmet and this is my wife Rose" he said pointing to the woman who still looked at the child in awe. "What is your name darling? he asked quietly so as not to scare her.

"Evangeline" Annie replied.

"That's a long name for a pretty little girl, how about we call you Eva?" Rose said stepping forward stroking the child's hair gently. The girl nodded calmly and held out her arms towards Rose. Rose took her from Emmet gently and held her close "can we keep her? please Emmet" both girls looked at him with puppy dog eyes.

"Fine, but you are telling Carlisle" he said.

"Who is Carlie?" Eva asked looking confused.

The two adults laughed and then Rose said "he is going to be your new Grandpa".

"You mean ... I am getting a new family?" Eva asked with both joy and hope in hair deep blue eyes.  The pair nodded at the question, and then she asked an unexpected question "can I call you Momma and Papa?"

"Of course, you can you are our daughter now" Emmet said. Eva shivered as a cold breeze blow "Lets go home and get out of this weather" he said to Rose. And they walked away from the forest and off to the house to introduce their new daughter to their family/coven. Eva fell asleep in her new Mothers arms along the way and Emmet kept his arm around Rose's shoulder gently guiding her whilst she looked lovingly at their new daughter.
