It's not easy, one moment both of you were childhood friends, enjoying a simple game of tag under the spring breeze, the next moment you were watching your childhood friend, who developed into your love interest, battle it out with the most dangerous trainer the Unova region has ever seen.

This was the exact case for Hilbert. He watched as Hilda, who was acknowledged as the Hero of Ideals, battle it out against the Hero of Truths, N.

To say that Hilbert was jealous of Hilda was an understatement. Hilbert, is a dreamer. Hilda on the other hand, shared the same dream as him, she left on a journey so that she wouldn't lose to her childhood friend. You could say it was a childhood rivalry that manifested along as they grew. However just as she treasured the rivalry against Hilbert, some part of her truly felt strong romantic feelings towards him. To keep things simple, both of them liked each other but were too afraid to admit it. However it wasn't the case now, she had complete fell head over heels for the green haired man standing infront of her. She had once told Hilbert, which utterly destroyed, no obliterated the sole remains of his heart. Apparently, ever since she first saw him when they started her journey, some part of her heart had started to scream, screaming the simple words to her brain, exclaiming that she was already madly in love with him. Despite this, she kept it in to herself and accepted the fate that she was going to put and end to Team Plasma's ambitions, to which after she was going to confess her feelings towards N.

Hilbert wasn't oblivious one bit. He could see the signs, even before she told him about her feelings. Hilbert, already knew the outcome, but still held and remained true to his feelings towards her, still believing his chance would come. After all, he was a dreamer. However, despite his strong sense of Ideals, things weren't going in his favour.

To make matters worse, Hilbert was extremely jealous of Hilda at the moment. Thoughts kept flowing into his head. The most common being that: I should be the one there! Hilbert, was considered a prodigy when they were kids in the trainer's school, not only that, he was a dreamer, an idealist with a pure soul, and he held on strongly to the value that "Hard Work will definitely bring Success". However, Hilda, well she was honestly the dunce in the class, she was never good with books and theory but her bright attitude always made up for it.

And so, that was Hilda and Hilbert. Childhood friends with mixed feelings towards each other. Obviously, they had their clique which included Bianca and Cheren, but they weren't here at the moment.

Hilbert reflected on the moment where Hilda accepted the stone. That stone which was the essence of great Zekrom himself.

(Flashback Begins)

Lenora held out the Dark Stone. "This is probably Zekrom itself. Arceus, I can't believe it has come down to this. Hilda, Hilbert, its your move, who will be the one who awakens Zekrom, lets put your ideals to the test!" Lenora said looking at Alder.

Alder merely looked at the 2 trainers. He directed them to get their Pokemon ready, this battle between the 2 rivals was going to settle the fate of humanity itself. "The winner of this battle, he or she shall be the one who will be recognized by Legendary Pokemon Zekrom himself. Sincere trainers, fight till you heart desires! BEGIN!!"

Both of their Pokemon fought hard. And one by one, both their Pokemon fell and it was down to both Trainers' final Pokemon.

"Metagross, use Meteor Mash on Serperior!" Hilbert ordered his walking collusus, eyes filled with determination. His Metagross clearly had a superior advantage against her Serperior, especially with X2 Attack power stacked from his previous Meteor Mashes.

Serperior, on the other hand, had set up her coil, twice, giving her a very high stat boost in terms of her attack, defense and accuracy.

Not wanting to disappoint his trainer, Metagross immediately jumped and dove down straight towards, Serperior. Metagross was part steel, thus he knew that he would be able to resist any move Serperior threw at him, it was a very bold and reckless choice leaving Serperior.

"Serperior, evade and use Leaf Blade," as Hilda commanded, Serperior slid to the side, leaving Metagross to leave a devastating crater in the middle of the battlefield. Sharp blades began to form Serperior's tail, now with Metagross still recovering from his previous attack, it was a chance for her to attack, and if possible, win this.

"SLASH!"

And Serperior's Leaf Blade landed on Metagross. Metagross was still standing, and Hilbert was smirking. He had her Serperior right where he wanted it to be. "HA! Bold move, now Metagross, Meteor Ma..." Just before he could finish his sentence, Metagross crashed into the cratrr he made, and from the looks of it, he was unable to stand.

It can't be, Metagross has resistance, as well it having a high base defense, it should've been able to resist its Leaf Blade. That was what Hilbert was thinking at the moment. Unless... No it has to be, she got lucky and landed a crtical hit.

Hilbert wasn't a spoiled sport, if he lost, he would lose without complaining, even though if his loss was unreasonable and clearly by a fluke. However, that doesn't mean that negative thoughts didn't appear in his head. In his mind, he was screaming. He was feeling the darkest pits of despair. He has worked harder than Hilda, his Pokemon trained harder than Hilda and were clearly stronger than hers, and his ideals and beliefs were way stronger than her's, but when it came down to it, she took all his dreams and aspirations away from him. She crushed him, crushed his beliefs and ideals, she was to be the one acknowledged as the hero of Ideals. It also didn't help knowing that she was still in love with N, and to make matters worse, Hilbert couldn't feel a slight bit of hate towards her for taking everything he worked for awy from him, and that was because...

...he still loved her.

Despite losing and having emotions flood into him, all he did was fake a smile and mumbled his congratualtions towards her. "It looks like you showed us your power, and your drive to win." Alder began, walking towards them, Dark Stone in hand. He handed the Dark Stone to Hilda. "I guess you'll be the one who'll bring justice to Unova. I wish you all the best in your journey. Now I must make my way back to the Leauge to face N. Don't keep me waiting!" He shouted as he flew off back to the League.

"Dont worry, Alder. I won't be long. Besides, I need to convey my feelings to N," Hilda said while walking to the Pokemon Centre.

"Hilda..."

Hilda turned around. She saw Hilbert, smiling. However, she couldn't possibly feel or see through his facade, she couldn't understand the very trainer that stood in front of her, her rival, her friend. He continued, "Go for it, bring Team Plasma to justice."

"Yeah!" She hollered as she ran straight for the Pokemon Centre.

Hilbert looked up. He noticed how beautiful the skies were. He decided to sit under a tree on the outskirts of Route 7. He had enough of this pain. Tears were flooding his face, and it wasn't likely that they were going to stop anytime soon. He cried, not just because she chose N over him, but because he felt empty, all his dreams taken away from him, his beliefs shattered right in front of him, it was the worst.

(Flashback ends)

Despite the fact that he had his dreams crushed, his pure soul still remained. He still struggled his way to assist the girl which stole his everything. In the end, hatred was never the answer. He still chose justice over revenge and fought his way, crushed his way past the Elite Four and stood right behind Hilda, ready to back her up if things went wrong.

That was Hilbert, a boy who's world was turned crimson red.

To be continued...
