Chapter One - 'All in the Family'

Current Date: August 4, 1984 (Nearing the end of a long Summer).
Milky Way Galaxy, Earth.
Canada, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The sun gleamed through a partially closed curtain and pierced into the darken room. It crept across the bedroom floor till it reached the dresser on the other side of the room. It continued up the back of the desk chair next to the dresser, some of the light went onto the desk while it continued to shine into the mirror on the wall in front of the desk. The mirror reflected the sunlight nearly back the way it came till the light fell upon a bed with a sleeping male teenager. Cuddled up next to the teen by the pillow was a young adult male black cat. Who was found about a year ago under the garage, and he was alone. He was taken in and given a home and named Kelly.

This 'make-shift' temporary bedroom of two brothers had been setup in the basement. Some would say that they are both from the same coin, but are both very different individuals. The room was clearly divided (as best as it could be) and clearly showed the different personalities; The older of the two brothers, Perry, was into body building, fast cars, parties and believes that he’s God’s gift to women, and a bit of a Jerk! The younger brother; Ben, was also into body building (not as much as is brother) and enjoyed playing some sports. Ben, also had a love for art, nature and wanted the love for only one woman.
With groggy eyes and a confused mind, the young man begins waking at the sound of a 'really' irritating alarm. By impulse, he quickly reaches over with a closed fist and slammed it down onto the 'snooze' button. Once the alarm stopped, the arm flopped down alongside the bed as the head went under the pillow.

This morning ritual accrued almost every day through-out the summer. However, he was becoming more aware as the sleepiness slowly disappeared. He peered from under the pillow at the alarm, he was sure that he turned off the alarm!? It had to be his older brother who kept turning it back on. After the alarm sounded the third time. Ben rolled onto his back. He reached over and this time he turned-off the alarm. The young man's face was now in full view. This is when the feline stood-up, stretched and quickly moved onto his owner's chest, and sat there looking-down at him. He then sat-up picking up Kelly, gently hugging him. Looking around the room, he noticed that he was alone. His brother must've left for his sweet job; he worked for a company that had construction contracts with the city.

The time was now 11:33am. This young man's name is Benjamin J. Morgan (but everyone called him Ben, which he preferred), and he’s seventeen years old. He was enjoying his last two weeks of summer vacation before returning back to high school (grade eleven). For the moment, he just laid there till he was awake enough to decide what to do today. He rubbed his fingers through Kelly's fur as he so often did. He wasn't sure what his girlfriend; Elizabeth 'Liz' Gail Tucker (she went by Liz) was doing today. He was reminiscing about holding her in his arms and close to his side. They had been together for three-and-a-half years and they still had a very strong connection. They both didn't want her to get pregnant, so, they both practice safe sex. Then again, they never went all the way! She wanted to wait for marriage and Ben respected her enough to wait for that day. Although, more than once, parents on both sides had made it clear, that death was apart life!
With one hand still holding Kelly, Ben stood-up and sat the cat down on the bed, he stretched his body; he stood 5'11 in height (which was tall for a person his age), his average weight was about 140lbs. with broad shoulders and a fit toned body. He usually had a growing mustache and beard whiskers, along the jawline. He had shoulder length dark chestnut brown hair, with a lighter brown high-lights (something Liz did for him) over his right eye.

Several moments later, Ben was exiting the shower with nothing but a towel around the waist and another drying his hair. Looking over at Kelly who was following him around with a toy in his mouth. Kelly played with the toy nearby. Ben stood in front of a mirror making himself look acceptable. When finished, he went back to the bedroom.
