The Morgan House, Monday Night.

Sitting on the comfy chair in the living room, Ben had turned it around to face the back door at the other end of the kitchen, which gave him a direct-line-of-sight. He still had a good view of the front main door, however it was blocked-off with a sign on the out-side telling everyone to come around to the back.
He was the only one home. Ann and his father wasn't home, which also worried him. As soon as Ben got home, he had gone from room to room checking doors and windows, and seeing who was here. He hadn't seen his father all day and that was worrying him. Kelly was lying on the couch across from Ben with his front paws out-stretched, like he himself was waiting. Where the heck did Ann take-off to anyways. Ben had shut off all the lights grabbed his metal bat and sat in the living room, it was now almost 8pm. waiting for some sign of hope.

He's been sitting here in the dark, listening... listening... He's really good at listening in the dark, at hearing sounds and identifying them. It's something he had to do at a young age. He remembered when he was really young going to bed was very scary for him. He NEVER told anyone (but his mother knew) of his fear of the dark. How he would lay there curled-up with the sheet sometimes over his head, or watch EVERY moving shadow that creeped in through from the window.
In the darkness he thought that he could see 'passage ways' or 'tunnels' that could go places. He even thought he could see faces or someone in the room with him. It's a little fuzzy, on the how or when, but he learned to NOT being afraid of the dark, to identify sounds and noises, and their distances.

Just after 8:15pm Ben was startled, someone was at the back door by the kitchen, He hurried quickly over to the back door and waited. Slowly raising the bat ready to strike, he knew that he had to wait, he had to be sure who it was. The door opened and the back out-side light went on first. Someone not knowing the light-switches might do that, then the lights for the back stairs lite-up. Ben's knuckles were white. Who ever it was, was now stepping onto the stairs landing (to their left was the back stairs down to the basement, and straight ahead were the two steps to the kitchen).
They stopped at the top of the stairs and turned on the kitchen light. Ben was now in full view, just around the corner to their left, one more step and they would see him. Ben's heart was pounding so fast and so hard in his chest it felt like it wanted to jump out and run away. What was only a few seconds seemed like forever.
Here was Ben with a bat in hand, ready to swing at the head of whoever it was right around the corner, someone who had just entered the house and stopped just on the threshold! Ben looked up towards heaven and asked for help, and as if God himself was watching, said 'not needed'. In a familiar whiskery voice Ben hears “Shit... were they here!?”.

He recognized the voice, it was Perry, he lowered the bat. Stepping out Ben said “Your late... I was worried”. It was clear that Ben startled his brother, but he acted like he wasn't. They both made their way to the living room and both sat in the dark. For a moment, it was becoming awkward. Ben informed his brother about the phone call from the detectives and that it was all-good.
“What about dad? I haven't seen him all day!” Ben asked.
“He went to mom's office; he'll be back tomorrow morning”. Ben looked at his brother
“Now, I want you to tell me about today... What the Hell is going on at your job site?”. Perry hesitated then said “There's still stuff that I don't know, but it's NOT what it appears to be... I think these people are somehow connected to Organize crime... Maybe even Killers!!?”. Ben was taken aback, 'Killers??'
“Those were not cops were they?”. Again, paused

“No...I don't know for sure... But, these guys... Their very well connected, unbelievably so... The Police... City Workers... Lawyers and Judges, there seems to be no end to their numbers... They’re not ready to be exposed!”.

Ben couldn't believe what he was hearing, this was right out of some movie.
“Ben you can't tell anyone, not dad, Ann, and especially not mom... She would go after them... and who knows how many there are that work with her, and are apart of this group!'”.
“Is this family in any danger?”. Ben asked his brother.
“No... I was able to ensure them that I could handle you, get you to listen to me... And keep your mouth shut!” (Perry spoken with urgency).
The two brothers looked at one other, and then Ben nodded. He will keep his mouth shut, for now! All their lives, they never really seen eye-to-eye, but on this one matter they will both agree.
